The Den (television) - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The Den (first broadcast 29 September 1986) is the children's television strand on RTÉ Two in the Republic of Ireland.
The Den began in the 1980s as Dempsey's Den, it was fronted by Ian Dempsey for many years, and ran from 3 p.m.
In December 1991, the Den crew went to film their special in Moscow, which was perfectly calm, as one would expect for a children's Christmas special.

The eldest daughter takes her television set to University but when the son is away in the army he has no set of his own, with the only contact via large television rooms in communal blocks.
The televisions are the focal point of each room with one room made into a 'den' simply for the children to have friends over and to be comfortable.
It is interesting to note that the 'den' television is often on with no-one in the room, an example of the television being used for background noise and company.

The television networks are also in theory “owned,” by stockholders, but the networks are managed by hardcore Zionists whose sole agenda is as un-American and downright treasonous as anything any enemy of this country could ever perpetrate on the people of this nation.
Furthermore, the evisceration of education fuses with the dumbed down escapism and fictions of television to create a population addiction to and reliant on modern civilization's new drug of choice.
Television has been, and will be used to rewrite history and educate a dumbed down human race into believing fair tales and lies of the greatest proportion.

 Den of Slack - Willipedia
One would think, as the Den serves many people, that each system would need many controllers, but this is not the case, as the sort that frequent the Den are perfectly content to watch each other level up in the RPG of the moment.
However, the true Den sprawled across most of the third floor of Fitch, including one entire common room dedicated to Warhammer tables, and another, the common room of Josh Ain and Rachelle Hassan '03, in which Josh's original card game, Thesis, was developed.

I have never worked at a television company, or in a dot-com office, or even in any newsroom larger than 40 people, so it is likely that I am naive about such things.
Many of them will even tell you that DEN was actually a great idea with some great people, just a bit ahead of its time and plagued by foolish, free-spending managers.
DEN, regardless of its founder's appetites (which included serially lying about his age), tried to spend and bluff its way to a huge audience from the top down, hiring a huge staff at exaggerated salaries while inventing strategy on the fly.

For every hour of television watched daily, two groups of children -- ages 1 and 3 -- faced a 10 percent increased risk of having attention problems at age 7.
The researchers considered factors other than television that might have made some children prone to attention problems, including their home environment and mothers' mental states.
The American Academy of Pediatrics said in 1999 that children under the age of 2 should not watch television because of concerns it affects early brain growth and the development of social, emotional, and cognitive skills.

DEN, Boo: R.I.P. These spectacular dot-com flameouts are lessons in bad thinking, not harbingers of industry-wide collapse.
But DEN's Hollywood founders thought they knew better; enthralled by the chimera of "convergence," they assumed that because they understood the way the entertainment industry works, they also knew how to entertain people on the Web.
That arrogance explains DEN's demise as much as or more than the sexual harassment charges and management shake-ups that are being widely cited in coverage of the company's saga.

 The Truth about Television
Given that homicide is an adult activity, if television exerts its behavior-modifying effects primarily upon children, the initial "television-generation" would have had to age 10 to 15 years before they would have been old enough to affect the homicide rate.
It appears that the increased family contact brought about by television is not social except in the most limited sense: that of being in the same room with other people...the viewing atmosphere in most households is one of quiet absorption in the programs on the part of the family members who are present.
Every daytime hour spent in front of a television set is therefore one less hour the child has to ride a bike, play ball, join in team sports, or engage in other activities that would burn calories or raise the child's average metabolic rate.

Lyon's Den | PopMatters Television Review
With all these plots and subplots, and as yet untold histories upon as yet untold histories, you might expect a degree of incoherence in a series premiere.
In fact, the first episode holds together at the level of story and form, mapping its sundry narratives onto a couple of well-established structural oppositions.
Lyon's Den trades on the image of D.C. as a shadow-realm, characterized by backroom dealings and shifting loyalties; intercut throughout the first episode are brooding images of the local monuments, shorthand signifiers of capital "P" Politics (and a not so subtle indication that Rob hasn't fallen too far from the West Wing tree).
