The official rationale for Desert Fox may remain the "degrading" of Iraq's ability to produce weapons of mass destruction and the "diminishing" of the Iraqi threat to its neighbors.
The heart of the Desert Fox list (49 of the 100 targets) is the Iraqi regime itself: a half-dozen palace strongholds and their supporting cast of secret police, guard and transport organizations.
Desert Fox's most significant departure from Desert Storm is its targeting of offices associated with Saddam Hussein's entourage and advisers, the Iraqi intelligence and Ba'ath party organizations, and the security and transport apparatus that is so essential for Saddam's survival.

The Desert Fox was released in 1951 — a mere six years after the end of World War II and it paid tribute to one of the more revered, feared, and respected warriors to ever wage war, Germany’s Erwin Rommel.
The audio transfer for The Desert Fox is presented in a Dolby Monaural mix that sounds acceptable for the material, but as expected, is a far cry from any recent blockbuster you’ve heard in the “war” genre in the past few years.
Fox has given the film a solid DVD treatment, with the vast majority of the issues related to the A/V transfers are directly related to the film’s age and source recordings.

THE DESERT FOX ($15) is a solid Hollywood style screen biography that greatly benefits from the presence of actor James Mason.
Based upon Brigadier Desmond Young’s biography, THE DESERT FOX shows Rommel, as both a family man and the kind of no nonsense military leader that was respected and feared by the opponents that he faced on the field of battle.

Originally copyright by 20th Century Fox Film Corporation, in 1951, only six years after the end of World War Two, this fl and white film gives a shallow overview of the last years of German Field Marshal Erwin Rommel: the Desert Fox.
"The Desert Fox" was made in an era when the directors, producers, and the Hollywood Establishment in general, were less preachy, and less likely to distort the truth in order to promote a social agenda.
This is a superb movie dealing with the great German general, Erwin Rommel, dubbed "The Desert Fox." Surprisingly, the movie deals rather tersely with the famed North African campaign, and instead focuses largely on the period after this time, when Rommel becomes disaffected with Adolf Hitler and the Third Reich, and conspires against Hitler.
