The Disney Afternoon was a created-for-syndication two-hour television programming block which aired from September 10, 1990 until 1999.
In the Fall of 1999 the weekday Disney Afternoon block was taken out of syndication and moved to UPN while conntinuing weekends on ABC.
Disney would buy the animation department of Fox in 2001 along with Fox Family Channel which was renamed ABC Family Channel.

It soon became clear that Disney was moving in a different direction with its half-hour cartoon series; by December 8, 1997 Disney announced the planned launch on April 18, 1998 of Toon Disney, a 24 hour cable cartoon network.

Disney Afternoon was way better than what they have now.
I love Disney Afternoon.I used to watch it all the time then stopped watching it but when we started to get the disney channel as part of cable I had wondered where it went.As a little girl I would always watch that show.
The sound track had the theme songs from all four shows and the Disney afternoon Theme Shong it also had other songs that were proformed on the shows.

The Disney Afternoon was aired between 3:00 and 5:00 PM Monday through Friday from September 10th 1990 to September 1st 1997.
By TDA's time slot, I meant that it was aired during the time that one or another TDA shows occupied before the name drop.

I have to say, I believe Disney was at it's prime when it aired the Disney Afternoon, especially in the earlier 90's.
The Disney Afternoon began and finished with it's own theme song and music, and eventually an official soundtrack was released comprising of the theme music, and also songs from the four original cartoons making up the show - Gummi Bears, Ducktales, Chip n Dale Rescue Rangers and TaleSpin.

Disney may also be testing the waters; the more of this volume they sell the more effort they'll put into the next.

My favorite part of the Gummibears boat ride at DL was when you turned the corner, and Tummi was counting berries, and you heard him saying "Two for me, one for the gummiberry juice factory!" I just cracked up......and we got stuck there for awhile because the boat in front of us was slow.....

I found the 'real' Disney Afternoon shows to be meh to plain bad.

The Future Disney Cabinet is a game played by a small fraction of the readers of this group (about 250 out of a projected readership of 80,000 according the July arbitron).
It has been suggested that rec.parks.theme might be an appropriate place to move this discussion, though it appears that people interested in Disney theme parks will naturally migrate to rec.arts.disney and educating them about a related newsgroup in a different hierarchy might not be an easy task.
This includes FAQs, Disney Stores, corporate rumours, collectables, conventions, music, comics/books, etc. This newsgroup would replace the existing rec.arts.disney newsgroup, which will be removed after three months to allow time for traffic to migrate.
