		The good news is that after his slip with "Boomerang," Eddie Murphy is back in form with "The Distinguished Gentleman," showing off his considerable talent for dialects, voices, impersonations and general comedy shtick.
		The bad news is that those moments are few and far between, that the first half-hour of the film is deadly dull and that the screenplay is merely a routine, by-the-numbers fish-out-of-water yarn that is so predictable you may feel like you've seen it all before.
		As it is, "The Distinguished Gentleman" is about 45 minutes of amusing material loosely floating around in a flabby two-hour movie.

		I would be tempted to say "The Distinguished Gentleman" paints a jaundiced view of lobbyists and bribery in Washington, if the latest headlines didn't make the movie seem almost soft on payola.
		By now "The Distinguished Gentleman" should really be humming along, but it isn't, and the problem is with the slow pacing.
		But "The Distinguished Gentleman" prefers to give us measured laughs at a leisurely pace, and then it settles for the sellout upbeat ending.

		Distinguished Gentleman did have the unfortunate positioning of being a film made during Murphy's cooling period.
		While not hitting the highs of Murphy's earlier works like 48hrs, Beverly Hills Cop, and even Coming to America, Gentleman is highly superior to Murphy drek like Vampire in Brooklyn, The Golden Child, and the hype induced super-hit Dr. Doolittle.
		It appears as if this new DVD for The Distinguished Gentleman has used the old non-anamorphic widescreen transfer used for the film's laserdisc release in 1993.

		His graduation into film music with 1988’s Feds and Twins and 1989’s Ghostbusters II was not a career explosion but, behind the curtain of Oz that is Hollywood, people did take note and Edelman became a regular on many a comedy credit list.
		As a stand-alone album this offers very little in the way of meaty material and neither should it; it is comedy music after all.
		The wonderful Caribbean-esque theme that headlines the album is revisited a couple of times (most notably in the penultimate cue, ‘On The Campaign Trail’) but not even with the subtlest of change.
