The Dream Academy - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The Dream Academy were a 1980s British folk rock band, comprising singer/guitarist Nick Laird-Clowes, multi-instrumentalist (chiefly oboeist) Kate St John and keyboardist Gilbert Gabriel.
The trio settled on the name The Dream Academy and shopped their demos for nearly two years and were rejected "by every record label" before finally landing a record deal with Warners in 1985.
Nick ultimately decided that he could not go on further under the Dream Academy name as "it wasn't the Dream Academy with just me" and took some time off to travel to South East Asia and Africa.

In a shocking success story, Dream Academy's easy-listening, generally dull pop found its way to the top of America's record charts in 1985.
Dream Academy has thankfully abandoned the nostalgia gimmick, but Laird-Clowes' songs are still trifles, with clumsy lyrics that smack more of education than imagination.
If Prefab Sprout didn't exist, Dream Academy would still be second-rate, an ornate frame for a missing picture.

 dream-academy Mp3 Albums Review
At best, the most Dream Academy could hope for was to replicate that first single and hope the warm memories of their debut could help them build their success to the next level.
The Dream Academy's second album, 1987's "Remembrance Days", is definitely not as great as their absolute masterpiece debut.
Short-lived though they were, The Dream Academy were an incredible band, with Nick Laird-Clowes being one of the most brilliant artists in the history of music, and "Remembrance Days" is an album definitely worth having.

And to complete the 60s theme, Dream Academy's eponymous album was co-produced by Dave Gilmour, the sixties psychedelia master of Pink Floyd fame.
While reminiscent of The Beatles and their Merseybeat contemporaries, the Dream Academy's music was more similar in sound to the Liverpool sound of the late 70s, when such groups as The Teardrop Explodes and Echo and the Bunnymen rediscovered the subtle side of the guitar and put some art back into rock.
To their credit the Dream Academy did make the sound track of a John Hughes film with their instrumental cover of The Smiths' Please Please Please let Me Get What I Want.
