The Dukes of Hazzard film review
The Dukes Of Hazzard is the latest old TV series to get resurrected and given the big screen treatment.
Early on the curvaceous Daisy Duke (Jessica Simpson) talks about always having to rescue her cousins Luke (Johnny Knoxville) and Bo (Seann William Scott) whenever they get themselves in trouble.
Watching endless scenes of the famed orange 1969 Dodge Charger, with its signature confederate flag on the roof, wheel-spinning round the fields of Hazzard County is, surprisingly, not as absorbing as it sounds.

The Dukes of Hazzard - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The TV series, The Dukes of Hazzard, followed the adventures of two good ol' boys, Bo and Luke Duke, living in an unincorporated area of the fictional Hazzard County, Georgia racing around in their souped-up 1969 Dodge Charger, The General Lee, evading corrupt Boss Hogg and his inept county sheriff Rosco P. Coltrane.
Daisy Duke (portrayed by actress Catherine Bach) raced around Hazzard with her cousins, first in a yellow and fl 1971 Plymouth Road Runner, and then—after her car was lost over the side of a cliff—she received her trademark white 1980 Jeep CJ-7 "Golden Eagle" with a Golden Eagle emblem on the hood, the "Dixie".
Although Hazzard County, Georgia was a fictional location (the early episodes of the show were filmed in Covington, Georgia), the real-life town of Hazard, Kentucky was a beneficiary of the show's popularity.

The Dukes of Hazzard is a movie based on the American television series, The Dukes of Hazzard.
The film was #1 at the box office its opening weekend, grossing $30.7 million on 3,785 screens — this despite being panned by most professional film critics (its Tomatometer rating at Rotten Tomatoes is an abysmal 18 percent).
Roger Ebert gave the film one star, calling it a "lame-brained, outdated wheeze" and suggesting that Burt Reynolds' part in the film is "karma-wise...

calendarlive.com: MOVIE REVIEW - 'The Dukes of Hazzard'
A collection of promotable elements strung together until it's time for the next show, "Dukes" is vapid even by the standards of the venerable TV series about Southern boys and their toys — rarely confused with "Omnibus" or "Masterpiece Theater" — it's based on.
True, there are signs that "Dukes" has been carefully engineered in the hopes of pleasing teenage boys and the grown men who wish high school was eternally in session.
The film's promotable element No. 1 is that devilish pair of eternally grinning Duke boys, closer to action figures than actual people, good-looking cousins Bo (Seann William Scott) and Luke (Johnny Knoxville).

Jay Chandrasekhar’s tactless big screen branding of The Dukes of Hazzard casts two bungling “actors” in the pivotal roles as Bo and Luke Duke: Seann Thomas Scott, of ‘Stifler’ American Pie fame and Johnny Knoxville, the Jackass ex-pat who stumbled into stardom by roasting his nipples and chewing on broken glass.
Nelson is Uncle Jesse, the patriarch of the Duke family, and the family trade is the manufacture and distribution of moonshine.
Analyzing The Dukes of Hazzard reminded me of the sterile criticism of Adam Sandler’s character's speech at the end of Billy Maddison: “we’re all dumber for having listened.” In this case we’re all probably dumber (or is that dumberer?) for having watched.

Granted, the bar was never very high for The Dukes of Hazzard movie from the start, but director Jay Chandrasekhar (Super Troopers) of the Broken Lizard Comedy troupe barely tweaks the series' moronic blend of redneck stereotypes and cornpone narration.
The fast-driving bane of Hazzard County's crooked Sheriff Roscoe P. Coltrane (M.C. Gainey), the Dukes and their sexpot cousin Daisy (Simpson) peddle the family moonshine for Uncle Jesse (Willie Nelson).
Over the years, the Duke clan has managed to outwit and outrun Sherriff Coltrane and his deputy Enos (Michael Weston) at every turn, but they may have met their match in Boss Hogg (Burt Reynolds), the most powerful and corrupt man in the county.

Although intentionally mindless and as reckless as an open moonshine jug left on a steaming heater, The Dukes of Hazzard continues to feed the repetitive trend of arbitrarily milking the popularity of nostalgic network programming and trying to bleed the cinematic appeal for all that it is worth.
Whereas the small screen version of the Duke clan had a sense of charm and irreverence that was infectious in its offbeat mode, Chandrasekhar's big screen edition feels anemically manufactured and uninspired in their awkward bid for country-fried craziness.
In fact, the movie's toothless plot involving the Dukes' agenda to curb the selfish-minded and fiendish plan of Hazzard County honcho Boss Hogg doesn't even have a creative or distinctive punch to challenge one of the trademark slapstick episodes of the TV show's reruns.
