Maria Vladimirovna of Russia - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
He based that contention on the claim that all other males descended from Emperor Nicholas I of Russia married in violation of the House Laws with the result that their offspring did not possess any inheritance rights to the Russian throne.
According to Maria, the members of the association are not Imperial Russian dynasts because they are descendants of morganatic marriages.
According to them, under dynastic law, the Emperor designated which of the dynasts had to marry Orthodox women; usually such requirement was placed on persons who were high on the succession line.

RUSSIAN IMPERIAL SUCCESSION, by BRIEN HORAN   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-11-06)
His adherents seem to ignore the fact that the succession laws required each dynast to be born of an equal marriage, that is, born of a marriage of a dynast to a spouse of royal birth (or, to be more precise, to a spouse who was a member of a royal or sovereign dynasty).
Several dynasts thereupon protested the wording of the statement and its mention of a curatrix of the throne, because they felt that the statement sought to prejudice their rights, including perhaps the right of each, should he succeed as dynastic head, to amend the Pauline law.
In the latter two cases, the respective Austrian and German dynastic heads did not in any way determine that the wives in question were of equal birth; instead, the two dynastic heads used their authority to allow an exception to the dynastic marriage laws, thus in effect amending those laws in particular instances.

THE RUSSIAN SUCCESSION   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-11-06)
Female dynasts, upon marrying into foreign royal houses, usually but not always renounced their rights, although the only two female dynasts to have married "equally" after 1918 (the daughters of Grand Duke Kyrill) were not so required.
It was this action that led several dynasts, who had hitherto accepted the Grand Duke's authority as Head of the House without challenge, to join with the dissenting Prince Roman and protest at his action.
Following the death of Prince Vassili of Russia, the last male Russian dynast other than Wladimir himself, Maria was declared heiress to the throne by virtue of the succession law under which the Crown would pass to the nearest female dynast to the last male of the House.

 RussianImperialSuccession
With the exception of several dynasts (all but one of them females) who upon their marriages signed renunciations of their succession rights, there was no such thing as a separate category of people who were dynasts but who were ineligible to succeed to the throne.
For at least the last 80 years of the monarchy, male dynasts were listed in the court calendar by primogeniture in the order of their succession to the throne, while female dynasts were listed according to other criteria unrelated to the succession.
Although, by October 1938, 9 morganatic sons (including the present Prince Nicholas Romanoff) had been born to male dynasts since the fall of the monarchy, not a single one of the 9 was included among the 13 names on the succession list, for the obvious reason that not a single one qualified as a dynast.

The Diadochi: The siege of Rhodes
The city of Rhodes had a powerful navy and enjoyed the finest government in Greece, and so was an object of competition between the dynasts and kings, as each sought to win it over to his friendship.
The Rhodians, then, by establishing friendship with all the dynasts, kept themselves immune from any justifiable complaint, but their sympathies inclined most towards Ptolemy.
For it so happened that they derived the majority of their revenues from the merchants sailing to Egypt and that in general their city was sustained by that kingdom.

 The Case For Legitimism
The nationality of a dynast does not affect his right of succession to the Crown but the title of Prince du Sang (which replaced that of Seigneurs du Sang Royal) is limited to those Dynasts who are French nationals.
In each of the latter two cases the French dynast acquiring a foreign Crown received letters confirming that he retained his French dynastic rights, and it has been argued that this was a pre-requisite for retaining such rights.
If, however, foreign nationality was sufficient to exclude a dynast then a simple remedy to have settled the issue of the legality or otherwise of the renunciations of 1712 would have been to deprive Philip V of his French nationality upon becoming Spanish King.

The Ephesian form of Artemis, as the cultus figure of a nature-goddess, first appears as a symbol on the cistophori, and then on gold coins struck during the revolt of 87-84, when Ephesus took the side of Mithradates.
In the early 4th century the Carian dynasts issued coins from Ephesus.

In dealing with the Georgian nobility, the Bagratid kings of Georgia utilized many of the same methods as did foreign rulers: circumvention of the dynasts whenever possible, [254] manipulation of the nobles' precedence, and "de- naxarar ization"--removal of the lords.
During the 10-12th centuries, Georgian monarchs attempted to circumvent the autochtonous dynastic nobility by elevating to official positions, persons of non-noble origin.
Thus prior to the advent of the Zak'arids, the monarch was able to manipulate precedence by rewarding of office, although from the above it should be clear that the struggle against the dynasts was a continuous ongoing contest.

 CATHOLIC ENCYCLOPEDIA: Egypt
The earliest specimens of Egyptian literature are the so-called Pyramid Texts engraved on the walls of the halls and rooms of the pyramids of Unis (Fifth Dynasty) and Teti II, Pepi I, Mernere, and Pepi II (Sixth Dynasty).
Comparison between various copies of known date show that, as a rule, they were mere abstracts from the standard copies preserved by the corporations of embalmers, or undertakers, the deceased individual having, as a rule, ordered during his lifetime a copy to be prepared according to his own belief and means.
The bulk of the chapters were believed by the Egyptians to antedate the human dynastic times, and, as Professor Maspéro remarks, the discovery of the Pyramid Texts, to which the Book of the Dead is closely related, shows that this idea was not altogether futile (op.

Morganatic and Secret Marriages in the French Royalty
Morganatic marriages are marriages in a royal or sovereign family which somehow contravene the dynastic rules, either because they were not authorized, or more often because of a perceived mésalliance or inequality in rank between the spouses.
The issue of the morganatic marriage is barred from succeding to the throne (sometimes the perpetrator as well), and the spouses are denied the rank they would have normally held as royal spouses.
It seems that the French secret marriages were authorized on another condition: that the prince fulfill his dynastic duties by leaving a legitimate issue, and not leave any issue by the secret marriage.

The coin issues of the individual Lycian Dynasts end around 360 B.C. The cessation can perhaps be linked to the support these Dynasts gave to the losing side during the Satrap Revolt, a decision which resulted in a loss of power.

Thomas Hardy's Tragic Poetry convincingly argues that Hardy's lyric poetry and The Dynasts occupy a pivotal place in the development of modern tragic poetry and drama, crystallizing the tragic feeling that surfaces intermittently in Romantic and Victorian poems and plays.
Katherine Maynard remedies that situation by tracing the emergence of the Hardyean figure—tragically isolated against the backdrop of a stark landscape, neutral universe, or indifferent social milieu—through both a review of critical opinion about tragedy's place within modern literature and a survey of the frustrated attempts by major nineteenth-century poets to write tragic drama.
Hardy's epic-drama The Dynasts is seen as a fulcrum work, bearing many of the flaws of its dramatic forebears but also illustrating his use of contemporary science and philosophy in the service of dramatic irony.

Although the majority of the early coins represent individual dynasts, it is clear that there existed some sort of federation between these rulers, more or less under Persian suzerainty.
The abundant coinage testifies to the great prosperity of the country in the fifth and fourth centuries B.C. The distinctive symbol on the money of the various cities which took part in this Federal coinage is the Triskeles or so-called Triquetra, which sometimes takes the form of a tetraskeles or of a diskeles.

In The Dynasts it’s bird’s-eye, and in novels he falls back to bird’s-eye views, but a novel requires human action.

Around 1897 (though the project had been forming in his mind for thirty years), he turned to writing what he considered to be his masterpiece, THE DYNASTS; it was first published in three separate volumes in 1903-08.
He had not actually intended THE DYNASTS to be performed (terming it "a play intended simply for mental performance, and not for the stage"); however, it was in fact staged briefly for two months in 1914-15 -- "a splendid failure," said Hardy.
This three-volume large paper edition, which Hardy consented to sign (a task he performed in June 1926), was published the year before Hardy's death.
