China - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
With over one-fifth of the world's population, the majority of China exists today as a state known as the People's Republic of China, but it also refers to a long-standing civilization comprising successive states and cultures dating back nearly 5,000 years.
Inner Mongolia, Xinjiang, and Tibet, and the island of Taiwan, over time, came to be dominated (to a greater or lesser extent) by, or officially ruled by, imperial China, and are often included as a part of Zhongguo, though acceptance or denial of such claims remains politically controversial, especially where Zhongguo means PRC.
The Great Wall of China, stretching over 6700 km, was first erected in the 3rd century B.C. to protect the north from nomadic invaders and has been rebuilt several times since.

Success in Edge of Darkness also brought him film roles, notably in the British productions The Kitchen Toto and On the Black Hill in 1987, then, most famously, as the doomed game warden Muldoon in Jurassic Park(1993).
Peck's performance in Edge of Darkness embodies the paradox that is at the heart of the drama.
Perhaps his most highly acclaimed performance after Edge of Darkness was as the mild mannered, accident-prone academic, James Westgate, who falls victim to his childhood sweetheart's psychopathic desires, in Simon Gray's Prix Italia winning television play, After Pilkington (BBC, 1987).

DVD Times - Edge Of Darkness
It should be apparent that Edge Of Darkness was not a series with humble ambitions and its placing at fifteenth in the British Film Institute's Top 100 Television is testament that it more than matched the challenge Troy Kennedy Martin placed on himself when he began work on it.
Edge Of Darkness was first broadcast on BBC2 in six 50-minute episodes but due to the instant critical praise it received, it was repeated almost immediately on BBC1 in three 1hr40m episodes and repeated once again shortly after.
Indeed, Edge Of Darkness is one series where the BBC ought to be developing a DVD reissue to archive not only the series but the scripts, the music by Michael Kamen and Eric Clapton, information on the production and the legacy and influence of the series.

FILM NOIR 2000 - Darkness on the Edge of Town
"When he awoke with his revolver in his hand, the odor of gunpowder still burning his nostrils, he didn't have to go into the bedroom to know what he would find there." Film noir is the redemptive return from Hell, the blood on the boots, the sardonic complement to post-WWII optimism.
Film noir captures our most primal anxieties...and our most sophisticated.

DVD Talk > Reviews > Over the Edge
Over the Edge is a compelling, deeply original film...one that's gone largely unseen, a wrong that'll hopefully be corrected with the release of this DVD.
Over the Edge is fairly even-handed with most of its characters, resisting the temptation to over-demonize the parents or over-romanticize teenage rebellion.
Over the Edge isn't heavy on characterization, and it's not about driving a plot from one point to another; viewers who focus squarely on those aspects may come away somewhat disappointed.

Over the Edge Standard Release DVD - MovieWeb
Over the Edge struck as sensitive a nerve with young 1970s moviegoers as Rebel Without a Cause did with their 1950s forebears; the difference here is that there are precious few rays of hope at the climax.
The protagonists of Over the Edge are the teen-aged offspring of the residents of a planned suburban community.
Inasmuch as the local cops are predisposed to beat the teens into submission, the kids retaliate by directing their frustrations at the Law; the results are tragic, to be sure, but in no way predictable.

Montreal Mirror : Film review - Over the Edge
The tone of Over the Edge is difficult to pin down-it’s at once a dark reflection of a society which has turned its back on its young citizens, a commentary on the generation gap (still resonating close to a decade after the ’60s) and a (not always intentional) comedy.
Perhaps most noteworthy is the film’s penultimate sequence, in which the kiddies lock their teachers and parents into school and then enact a massive riot around the building, knocking out power lines, setting automobiles ablaze and generally wrecking stuff.
When Dillon is interrogated early in the film by a cop, he’s urged to squeal.

Over the Edge was one of a string of movies made in the late '70s and early '80s characterizing teenagers as the little snots they were.
I suppose Over the Edge is a "guy movie"—it’s about guy friendships, guy oaths ("A kid that tells on another kid is a dead kid"), the guy (Carl) getting the girl (Cory, played by Pamela Ludwig), and plenty of guy posturing and guy tough-talk and in the end, guy violence.
Over The Edge is a classic that has worked itself into the collective unconscious in more ways than most casual moviegoers realize.

The best of these was The Edge of Darkness, a Warner Brothers film starring Errol Flynn and Ann Sheridan that featured a compelling story, fine acting throughout its cast, and well-staged action sequences—all under the firm guidance of Lewis Milestone.
Even the first appearance of Lillian Gish in a film in ten years is less successful than one might have hoped, partly because she is not given much to work with.
The exploits of the Norwegian resistance in World War II were the inspiration for several Hollywood films made during the war, all interestingly in 1943.

Edge of Darkness is described as "a heady brew of menace, intrigue and detection guaranteed to have all super sleuths tottering on the edge of their seats in this star-studded, knife-edged thriller."
Sadly this was not an edge of the seat kind of play, but a rather plodding affair with cringingly stilted dialogue and laboured stage direction.
Famous names from The Bill, Corrie and Eastenders along with Bergerac’s Liza Goddard pull on their corsets and starched collars for this Victorian gothic chiller thriller.
