The Elements of Typographic Style - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Robert Bringhurst authored three editions of a book titled The Elements of Typographic Style.
Originally published in 1992, it was revised in 1996 and 2004.
The book, which is a history and guide to typography, has been praised by Hermann Zapf, who said “I wish to see this book become the Typographers’ Bible.” The name is a play on The Elements of Style.

Robert Bringhurst’s book The Elements of Typographic Style is on many a designer’s bookshelf and is considered to be a classic in the field.
I’m a Master Typographer, and it has now become patently obvious to me that I will have to, once more, release MY book which is actually a ‘definitive work’ on typography and web design, far more than this guy Bringhurst’s book and certainly far more than what you are attempting.
However, typography remains a fundamental element of graphic design About Face presents and explains the typography basics required by all graphic designers, from the names of the different parts of characters, typeface styles and function, to type measurement, typeface families and type manipulation on the computer.

ACHUKASTORE - The Elements of Typographic Style - Book
The Elements of Typographic Style teaches the history of and the artistic and practical perspectives on a variety of type families that are available in Europe and America today.
Combining the practical, theoretical, and historical, this edition is completely updated, with a thorough exploration of the newest innovations in intelligent font technology, and is a must-have for graphic artists, editors, or anyone working with the printed page using digital or traditional methods.
The Elements of Typographic Style (version 3.1) is certainly a very well written book that contains not only a great deal of useful information but also interesting insights of a more subjective nature.

Typotheque: The Elements of Typographic Style : 0881792063
The Elements of Typographic Style is essential for professionals who regularly work with typographic designs.
Robert Bringhurst writes about designing with the correct typeface; striving for rhythm, proportion, and harmony; choosing and combining type; multilingual typography; designing pages; using section heads, subheads, footnotes, and tables; applying kerning and other type adjustments to improve legibility; and adding special characters, including punctuation and diacritical marks.
For students and practitioners of the graphic arts, it has become, as Hermann Zapf initially proposed, ‘the Typographers’ Bible’.

The book ends with a fascinating tour of sorts and characters, revealing the subtle functions of the cedilla and the ogonek; the umlaut and the diaeresis; the ligatures aesc, and oethel; the prime, the macron, and the vinculum.
He completes this tour de force with several more appendices: a glossary of typographic terms; a listing of type designers; another of typefoundries; a recapitulation of the main recommendations in the text; and a list of further reading.

The Elements of Typographic Style - Version 3.1
When the first edition of this book appeared, in 1992, its status as a classic was recognized at once by both conservative designers and members of the avant-garde.
David Godine has said; "It is rare to find a book on typography that successfully combines the personal with the practical, the philosophical with the truly useful.
But Bringhurst has brought both worlds together in what is sure to become a typographic classic, a book for both practitioners of the typographic arts and those who wish to know the reasons behind what Stanley Morison called 'the most conservative of all the crafts'."

The real science of "The Elements of Typographic Style" is in Bringhurst's bulk of explanations of letter construction, page composition, defining and given shorts histories of classic fonts as seen in specimen books, a great chapter on analphabetic symbols.

An appendix illustrates unusual typographic characters, such as the Croatian "dyet" and the German "sharp s," and a final appendix lists, without annotation, more than 100 books and periodicals for further reading.
This book is a must for the writer, publisher, designer, and editor because it covers a multitude of topics and rules vital and common to each sector.
It requires us to think more carefully about the setting of words and its impact on writing: "Typography is to literature what musical performance is to composition -- full of endless opportunity for insight OR obtuseness." I recommend this for anyone even remotely interested in the artform of letters.
