The term was used to explain the intricate nature of the music, though the music does not quite fit under the "math metal" label, which is why Mudvayne's sound has been described as nu-metal, but the band strongly disagree to being aligned with nu-metal.

The End of All Things to Come sacrifices none of this principle but maintains artistic vision and listener interest with a renewed emphasis on melody and songwriting.
The important thing to note, though, is that the band has generally incorporated singing as a development rather than a temperament.
What Mudvayne has created with The End of All Things to Come is an effort that combines furious intensity with deliberate development, a process ending with a mature but uncompromising album that's worth a look for any fan of heavy music.

The artist credits on Mudvayne's second major-label album, The End of All Things to Come (not to be confused with the 2001 reissue of its 1997 indie album, Kill I Oughtta, retitled The Beginning of All Things to End), might suggest that the band has undergone a complete personnel change, but in...

 Rough Edge: Mudvayne CD Reviews
"The End of All Things to Come" is dark and warped, full of strange and often well- hidden meanings that are extremely fun to try and figure out.
The main purpose of Mudvayne's "The Beginning of All Things to End" was to give fans something to chew on prior to the release of "The End of All Things To Come" and to re-release the band's rare 1997 E.P., "Kill I Oughtta." Those purposes are well-served here, however, something else happens as well.
But the remainder of "The Beginning of All Things To End" is pretty good stuff, with Mudvayne chugging along at their rawest.

Mudvayne: The End of All Things to Come (2002): Reviews
While the group attacks things with great velocity and singer Chud shreds his larynx at regular intervals, the always difficult follow-up album features actual melodies and mature textures that make the band's eventual transformation into a progressive rock band nearly inevitable.
The End is rather ordinary--severe, belligerent riffs and vocals that sound as though singer Chud gargles molten lava.
One thing that is better this time around is that the album is cleaned up (has less filler content).

Mudvayne appeared on the worldwide scene in 2000 with one of the most visually striking images in metal and a solid major label debut album in L.D. (following an indie EP from a few years earlier.
They are clearly in the heavier end of the nu-metal spectrum, with vocals alternating between hardcore and melodic and forceful downtuned guitars, as well as some subtle but impressive basswork.
Two years later they switched pseudonyms and image (going for a sci-fi alien visual, again quite striking) for their next release The End Of All Things To Come.

The End Of All Things To Come is just the epitome of what an original rock band is supposed to sound like.
MuDvAyNe's lyrical content are real.....they are an adage to what the band has experienced wholistically and individually, it gives their fans the feeling of musical satiety, and allows the first time listener to see with their ears what they are all about.
You would have to be stupid not to like MuDvAyNe or their album, The End of All Things to Come.

Once brushed off as a weak imitation of acts along the lines of Slipknot, Mudvayne has since gone on to prove itself with music that blurs the boundaries of nu-metal, rap-metal, math metal, and basic alternative.
Since forming Mudvayne in 1996, the visually-oriented Illinois-bred band members have gained recognition for their outrageous stage antics, garnering comparisons to groups like Korn and Limp Biskit.
With THE END OF ALL THINGS, the band sets itself apart, contrasting its harsh metal core with a newfound sensitivity.
