"Enemy Mine" tells the story of Willis Davidge, a human fighter pilot who chases his Drac victim, Jeriba Shigan, down to the surface of Fyrene IV, an inhospitable planet where the two stranded warriors find they must put their differences aside if they have any hope to survive.
The Last Enemy is, according to Longyear, the final installment in the saga of Humans and Dracs and appears in The Enemy Papers for the first time.
In The Last Enemy, Longyear also ties together the strands of the two earlier works, announcing Joanne Nicole's testament to be a canonical addition to The Talman and includes the reappearance of Willis Davidge, now the patron of the Jeriba line.

 CNN.com - Third 'enemy combatant' in legal limbo - Dec 13, 2005
NEW YORK (CNN) -- Ali Saleh Kahlah al-Marri, a 40-year-old from Qatar, is the only enemy combatant held in the United States whose case remains in legal limbo.
Al-Hawsawi is believed to be one of the "multiple sources" cited by the Pentagon to support President Bush's June 2003 declaration naming al-Marri an "enemy combatant" and transferring him to military custody.
The declaration alleges that al-Marri engaged in "hostile and warlike acts" working as an "al Qaeda sleeper agent" who was planning to "hack into the computer systems of U.S banks," and possibly facilitate a follow up to the September 11 attacks.

 Enemy Mine
The special twist to "Enemy Mine" is that Jeriba Shigan, the alien Drac, who it turns out is hermaphrodite and pregnant, dies giving birth to a child, who is then brought up by Willis Davidge, the human, until they are both rescued.
I guess that the reason "Enemy Mine" is not generally regarded as a piece of classic sf is simply that the aliens are not alien enough.
Even before I had come across Hell in the Pacific as a possible source, it was pretty obvious to me that the situation of the two characters is basically a WW2 setting, and that the Drac culture is based on Western perceptions of contemporary human East Asia (the respect for ancestors, hierachical society, etc).

The Enemy Combatant Papers - Cambridge University Press
Presented in narrative form, these original documents tell the story that clarifies the questions at the heart of the American detention of alleged combatants in the war on terror.
The book highlights the tension between the needs of national security and the liberties allotted to alleged enemies of the state by highlighting the basic question of what the U.S. Constitution guarantees and to whom.
Of all the various approaches used, one of the most audacious was the introduction of a distinctive and new casting of the idea of "enemy combatant" which was designed to strip away a system of protections and rights that developed as a part of international humanitarian law over the prior century.

 CNN.com - U.S. Supreme Court to hear dirty bomb case - Feb. 20, 2004
The administration claims that Padilla, Hamdi and the Guantanamo prisoners are all "enemy combatants," potential al-Qaeda terrorists or their Taliban protectors captured since the jetliner attacks that killed thousands in New York, Pennsylvania and at the Pentagon.
A federal appeals court ruled in December that President Bush does not have the authority to declare Padilla an enemy combatant and hold him in open-ended military custody.
The ruling by the 2nd U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals "undermines the president's vital authority as commander in chief to protect the United States against attacks launched within the nation's borders," Olson argued in asking the high court to take the case.
