Alice in Chains supported the album by opening for Van Halen, Poison, and Iggy Pop, and it became a hit, going gold by the end of the year.

Alice in Chains soldiered on in the face of such criticism, performing successfully on the third Lollapalooza tour in 1993, which helped Dirt reach sales of three million.

Why this long EP was not released as a legitimate album is an enigma, as Alice In Chains never reached such a peak of cohesive songwriting, emotional performance and tight arrangements on any of their full-length studio recordings.
Considering that Alice In Chains' best record is an acoustic collection of songs (Jar of Flies), this live Unplugged album could have been a great summary of their career, with the band's excellent grasp of what makes an acoustic arrangement work.

The new group began writing original material and playing clubs in Seattle, eventually changing its name to Alice in Chains.
According to Staley, Alice N' Chains would dress in drag at concerts, and he noted that he felt the name would fit a band that "dressed in drag and played speed metal." With the name change, the band shed its more "glam" image in favor of something that more closely resembled Seattle's grunge fashion.
