Fake Sound Of Progress by Lostprophets CD
FAKE SOUND OF PROGRESS, the debut album for these Welsh nu-metallists, contains a few surprises, not the least of which are the band's literate lyrical approach and the inclusion of turntable scratching.
But aside from Jimi Hendrix, "The Fake Sound Of Progress" is the only rock album I ever listen to...and I am blown away everytime I hear it.
But "The Fake Sound Of Progress" has stuck with me for reasons even I don't know—it is just great.

THE METAL OBSERVER - Review - LOSTPROPHETS - The Fake Sound Of Progress...   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-11-04)
The LOSTPROPHETS from Pontypridd (a little suburb of the Welsh city Cardiff) can be seen as one of the surprises of the year 2001 because one looks vainly for weak points on "The Fake Sound Of Progress".
The album sounds unspent and fresh even after one hundred spins and it impresses with a nearly frightening joy of play, which you normally find only on bands like FAITH NO MORE (R.I.P.) or INCUBUS.
Who furthermore wants something partly heavier, finds its pleasure with the "prophets" because in comparison with "Morning View", "The Fake Sound Of Progress" is heavier and more pressuring in its sound.

The Guide -- New‘Sound’ Is Rare Find
Experimental and enjoyable, the British nu-metal sounds of Lostprophets sound somewhat like a mix between Linkin Park, Radiohead and Thursday on their debut The Fake Sound of Progress.
Their two main singers do a good job of harmonizing and overlapping, with notes that reach a similar range to those of Incubus and Hoobastank’s singers, yet Lostprophets’s singers seem to be stretching their voices just a little bit too far beyond their normal vocal range.
Overall, The Fake Sound of Progress does not have a dull moment and should not disappoint most rock listeners.

This album is a good example of the new age of metal that is starting to appear throughout the country with a variety of sounds and ideas being used.
Fake Sound of Progress is metal for the masses, with vocals being smooth and music without the rough edges we often have to put up with.
For a bands first release "the fake sounds of prgress album" is top rate.

Show & Tell - lostprophets, "start something" CD review
Though the remixed and remastered version of The Fake Sound of Progress was released in the US late 2001, the original had actually been available for well over a year.
Though still present, the turntables aren't nearly as prominent as they once were (which is a damn good move, considering some people had lumped them in with the nu-metal quagmire of recent years).
And while The Fake Sound of Progress proved that lostprophets can write catchy songs that are both heavy AND melodic, Start Something proves that they aren't afraid to move forward and even show a little pop sensibility along the way.

Undoubtedly they will be thrown in with the nu metal bunch but whereas many of their contemporary's sound disjointed and even contrived, LP manage to pull it off as they gel each style together and unleash more hooks than a fisherman's tackle box.
The songs are a little predictable in that there's a quiet verse, loud chorus sequence of events on most songs but the quality of the material is so good that your be willing to overlook this predictability.
This harder edge is carried on in to the following track and differs to the rest of the album in that many of the songs have serious mainstream potential, and I don't mean that in a bad way, their is definitely a pop edge to this band but pop has never sounded so cool.

The crappy door to my crappy Del Playa apartment kept creaking open and slamming shut as I tried to listen to Lostprophets' The Fake Sounds of Progress.
One by one a chorus of moans emanated from the doorway as all six roommates, staggering in from school, were forced to endure this CD.
Hailing from Wales, these six, adolescent-looking nu-metallers attempt to mix rock with piano sounds and turntable effects to produce what I imagine is supposed to be "new and innovative." Instead, the listener is given a bland, mushy bootleg version of quality rockers, ranging from (hed)pe to At The Drive-In.

With a battery of musical styles, Lostprophets (yes it’s all one word) arrive with their debut album "The Fake Sound of Progress."
In a music scene dominated by the ‘horrible childhood’ moaning of Staind and Linkin Park-type bands, Lostprophets are a breath of fresh air.
"The Fake Sound of Progress" is intended as a jab at the collective egos of bands who claim loudly that they are bringing a new type of sound and breaking musical barriers, yet sounding exactly like everything else.

The six-strong Welsh metal litter that is Lostprophets flew out to Vegas to shoot the industry-baiting video for new single ‘The Fake Sound of Progress’.

But when we had the idea for the video we put it out to various directors and most of them were coming back with the idea of tying it into the signing process we went through, all the industry schmoozefests and how fake everyone is in there.

Lostprophets - The Fake Sound Of Progress: Silent Uproar
The Lostprophets are new, and they're getting fair play on MTV2, which is a good sign of their perhaps fake progress, because, as I've already alluded to, there's not much progress going on in rock music, just a duplication video of something that was already done.
CAR!" soft-to-loud crescendo that mirrors the alterna-rock, Pixies-ish formula that has been made so popular from the gamut of Nirvana to Hatebreed, so there's nothing new there.

rock-city.co.uk ::: LOSTPROPHETS — The Fake Sound Of Progress (single)
‘The Fake Sound Of Progress’, also the title of their debut album, does initially remind you of L***in P*** but the difference is that lyrically it actually makes sense!
Apparently these Lostprophets hail from Wales, so the fact they’ve acquired New Yawwk accents somewhere deep in the valleys does hold a major cause for concern.
Nevertheless, the playful guitar intro and the heartfelt chorus far outweigh the negatives, although the fact this shares a release date with G-G-G-Gareth and George Michael will probably hamper it’s progress.

The most obvious example of progressing is finishing in a higher league position than in the previous year.
Lastly, progress could be considered in terms of advancements off the field.
Thus it is off the field that City seem to have made the most progress since last year, and as these matter have little to do with the players and the manager, City's progress under Todd should only concentrate on the on-field matters.

I think this album is better than the second album due to its more aggresive nature.I generally agree with your review but i believe that still laughing and for sure are two of the best tracks on there.
Two of them singles, and with a song placed inbetween the two singles sounding just as fine as either of the two singles.
