Catch your flight - my favourite locative game (Just Bru)
When I was a kid I used to spend some time playing boardgames.
I reckon it also contributed, together with Conan Doyle stories, to ignite this neverending fascination of mine for this city.
Anyway, back to Scotland Yard, it is a game of transportation and deduction: the whole point is choosing the right route and getting from A to B faster than X (actually Mr.

Faro (card-game) - Encyclopedia.WorldSearch   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-10-25)
Although both Basset and Faro were forbidden in France, on severe penalties, these games continued to be in great vogue in England during the 18th century, especially Faro; for the alleged reasons that it was easy to learn, that it appeared to be very fair, and, lastly, that it was a very quiet game.
It was, however, the most dangerous game for the destruction of families ever invented.
Throughout this century, Faro was the favourite game.

The classic word game : Scrabble is a word game that anybody can play as long as they can spell in the language in which the game is being played.
The object of the game is to compete for the highest score by forming interlocking words in crossword fashion on the Scrabble board using tiles displaying letters with various score values.
Good but not as good as the orginal : I enjoy playing this game with family and it was purchased one christmas to repalce a slightly tired version. However, we were disappointed...

 Diplomacy
Nowadays, of course, adventure games (excuse me, RPGs) are just another means of exposure to the same infantile licenses that you experience through comics, novelizations, Saturday-morning cartoons, movies, lunch boxes, action figures, and God (or the gods) know what all.
Many games, to be sure, innovate in some fashion; but few innovators can be termed superb games more than thirty years after their publication -- let alone, centuries after publication, as I expect Diplomacy will be.
Yet that alone is insufficient; the true complexity of the game lies in the relationships among its players, and those are ever-changing.

Mar 16, 2004 10:24 PM I cant really remember, all those games of that time seem to have merged to one computer, not sure if they were amiga or not.
Best sports game was Sensible Soccer...however overall my most favourite game has to be Lotus Esprit Turbo Challenge, the finest arcade racing game of all time.
Sensible Soccer and the other Soccer games based on the same engine at different evolutional stages still amazed me several years later as I experienced having to manage 4-6 buttons in an EA Sports game to basically do the same things as could be done with a stick and ONE button on the Amiga.

The games on the horizon which are most likely to become my next favourite GBA game are either Fire Emblem or Golden Sun The Lost Age.
Perhaps Metal Slug or one of the Klonoa games might take the honour as well, and if Sega ever does release a Wonderboy game it'll definitely be a strong contender too.
Not just a great GBA game, I have a feeling it will be one of my favorite games for quite a while.

It was a game exclusive to the school playground – I can't recall playing the game anywhere else.

 My Favourite Game Boards
This interest extends to the boards used in games and while they needn't necessarily be a map, I really appreciate one that has been well designed and attractively rendered.
A lot of games use a board merely as a placeholder for pieces and settle for a simply matrix of boxes.
I'm a fan of Celtic knots and so this game, which uses them as a central mechanic, was a natural.

T.F. Rigelhof on The Favourite Game
The Favourite Game opens with the line, "Breavman knows a girl named Shell whose ears were pierced so she could wear the long filigree earrings." Like Suzanne in the Leonard Cohen song, Shell has touched a young man's body with her mind, but she wants to stake a claim to more than his flesh.
Breavman is creating a Song of Songs to her glory superimposed on a lament over his inability to renounce his Jewish soul to her gentile body.
The Favourite Game was published in England in October, 1963, and in New York in September, 1964, and sold about 1,000 copies in all.

When the flesh is gone and only the spirit remains...then we will have all the answers that escape us now; we live in a tangled maze of uncertainty and fear...but, sometimes, our souls find themselves mingling with souls like ours; then and only then, can we find the strength to carry on until the end.

He abandoned fiction after only two novels--1963's The Favourite Game and 1966's Beautiful Losers--but these were enough to reveal Cohen as a deft and vivid storyteller, equally comfortable with poetry and prose.
Like so many first novels, The Favourite Game is semi-autobiographical, a coming-of-age novel that tells the story of Lawrence Breavman, a Montreal Jewish boy who matures into a promising poet.
Whereas Beautiful Losers and much of his later poetry is very abstract, The Favorite Game is a novel in a traditional and familar form -- the coming-of-age of a young man -- but done in a highly unique and endearing fashion.

And I think the reason for this is the fact that I'm not much of a fan for any game for a very long time.
Because most adventure games are self contained it's inevitable for me to reach a saturation point with them, and I naturally seek new experiences elsewhere.
Fansites are great for getting every little detail about a game you love but as a community they have a short shelf life imo (unless they have a broader appeal as Krkode says; such as Mixnmojo covering all lucasarts stuff).

As a gently ironic period piece about Montreal in the early '60s, this film version of The Favourite Game might have worked, but director Bernar Hébert treats the source text with a reverance that proves deadly.
They talk about freedom and love in ways that were probably revolutionary at the time, but now seem as archaic as Shakespearean verse.

Continuing their evolution from pop perfection to rock melancholy, Swedish quintet The Cardigans deliver a moody, bouncy, gently seductive single that's light years away from the trifle that was "Lovefool" but still can't match the heady beauty of their early work.
But why they'd want to allow a cheesy jungle/rock remix of "My Favorite Game" is beyond me. A live version of the aforementioned global soundtrack smash is also included, but it's a slight pleasure at best.
Disc II: In retrospect, "War," the group's contribution to the film "A Life Less Ordinary," was the first chilling indicator of this new, anti-fluff approach.
