Topic: The Firm (band)

In the News (Fri 11 Dec 09)

The Firm (band) - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The Firm were a rock group comprising ex-Led Zeppelin guitarist Jimmy Page, former Free and Bad Company singer Paul Rodgers, ex-Uriah Heep drummer Chris Slade, and Roy Harper bass player Tony Franklin.
Both Page and Rodgers refused to play any material from their former bands and instead opted for a selection of songs from both their solo albums and new songs which were heavily infused with a soulful and more commercially accessible sound, courtesy of Franklin's fretless bass guitar underpinning and understated song structure.
After the band split, Page and Rodgers returned to solo work while Chris Slade joined AC/DC and Franklin teamed up with guitarist John Sykes in Blue Murder.

Firms from coast to coast are creating health-care consortia to purchase and administer health, dental and vision coverage.
Firms see a strong benefits package as critical to retaining and recruiting employees, and take a largely conservative approach to managing health-care costs -- trying to maintain generous levels of coverage while minimizing the financial blow to employees.
The band on which an employee falls determines what he or she will pay for a given type of coverage.

David Band, while not a large firm with an overwhelming wealth of financial resources (we like to call it a Boutique Law Firm), is building a firm of specialists, and in any event, is well connected to many other specialists in the legal industry.
Charges for these routine matters are reasonable because of the Band Firm’s use of templates from the computer, and are usually handled by his Paralegals and secretaries, who are never authorized to sign a notarial signature, but prepare the documents and present them to Mr.

The Firm is on shaky ground
The Firm, which is released on West Coast mainstay Dr. Dre's label Aftermath, is dominated by Foxy Brown's now-infamous words and actions.
Heavy grooves and sharp hooks permeate its sound, but the band can quickly switch from edgier tracks like "Fall Through The Cracks" to slower, more mellow songs like "Blown Wide Open." The voice of singer Ian Thornley is impressive, both strong and relaxed at the same time, kind of like a smoother Chris Cornell.
The only times when the album drags is when the band relies on the conventional, rather than further delving into the originality it displays on the majority of the disc.

So the band took its contracts to outside lawyers, who discovered that Pearlman had legally made himself a sixth member of the group, meaning that he was able to keep 17 percent of the money he distributed to the band after taking his 15 percent commission, according to court documents.
The band members were impressed by these brash young executives who promised them greater control of their careers, a larger share of revenues and innovative promotion and merchandising.
The band members say they resisted, feeling that it was too early in their careers for such an album and that it would ruin their long-held plan to mark the group's 10th anniversary in 2003 with a greatest-hits release.

Most bands, in fact, aren't remotely as successful as their MTV counterparts, and often aren't able to pay back their record labels before getting dropped from them.
The band fired its management and instead opted for Jeff Kwatinetz's The Firm, a young upstart run by a brash entertainment lawyer with as much ambition as the band.
Around the time of that album's release, the band hit a publicity coup d'etat when a high school student in Zeeland, Mich., was suspended for wearing a Korn T-shirt.

 Getting the Firm Together
To help meet these challenges, firms need to foster a culture that helps individual employees develop their knowledge and skills, feel that they’re on the right career path, and grow in their ability to identify opportunities to serve clients.
Firm Day activities also have included in-depth presentations about particular services, presentations about events the Vitale, Caturano and Company Foundation has sponsored, and a fashion show to demonstrate the firm’s dress code.
Because Firm Day is managed by managers with a deep understanding of the firm and culture, many ideas are implemented without significant input from the executive committee.
