Topic: The Flintstones movie

In the News (Wed 23 Dec 09)

The Flintstones in Viva Rock Vegas (2000)
Frighteningly, it makes the disastrous original Flintstones movie look like something by Kurosawa — and this prequel even has the added advantage of not having John Goodman in it.
Bachelors Fred Flintstone (Mark Addy, The Full Monty) and Barney Rubble (Stephen Baldwin, finally playing a character that's as dumb as he looks) are lowly Bedrock quarry workers.
The movie, in fact, has several painfully static moments in which absolutely nothing seems to transpire on-screen — the by-product of a scattershot script that generates no momentum or energy, and clueless to comic timing.

The Flintstone: Collector's Edition (1994)   (Site not responding. Last check: )
Movie technology made it feasible for movie-makers to create a live-action edition of the famed stone-age family; Fred, Barney and the rest of the humanoid characters could happily co-exist with a wide variety of other fantastical creatures in one vivid community.
However, since the movie tries to provide a fairly cartoony look, the lack of convincing animals doesn't seem very distracting; it fits the overall atmosphere of the film.
The text covers the basics of how the movie came to be, and while we've already heard much of it in other supplements, the notes provide a good overview.
