  Rarebird's Flying Burrito Brothers Reviews
Between two different FBB lineups, Kleinow and Guilbeau briefly played in a band called Sierra (not to be confused with a contemporary gospel trio of the same name).
A significant chapter in FBB history began in 1979, when Kleinow, Gilbeau, and Battin reunited under the name Burrito Brothers, and added vocalist and multi-instrumentalist John Beland to the lineup.
Although the Flying Burrito Brothers name was finally retired in the year 2000, Kleinow soon formed a new band called Burrito Deluxe, whom he played with up until his death in 2007.

The Flying Burrito Brothers - Biography - AOL Music
The Flying Burrito Brothers helped forge the connection between rock and country, and with their 1969 debut album, The Gilded Palace of Sin, they virtually invented the blueprint for country-rock.
The Flying Burrito Brothers reunited later in the '70s, albeit without their founding members Gram Parsons and Chris Hillman, and continued performing and recording in a variety of incarnations into the '80s.
Burrito Deluxe, the group's second album, was released in the spring of 1970.

The Flying Burrito Brothers - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The Flying Burrito Brothers were an early country rock band, best known for their influential debut album, 1969's The Gilded Palace of Sin.
The band best known as the "Flying Burrito Brothers" actually 'borrowed' their name from the original "Flying Burrito Brothers", composed of bassist Ian Dunlop and drummer Mickey Gauvin, bandmates of Parsons from the Boston-based International Submarine Band, plus any of a loose coalition of musicians, including Parsons himself from time to time.
As Gram Parsons's influence and fame grew, so did interest in the Flying Burrito Brothers, leading to the release of Honky Tonks (1974), a double album, and the recreation of the band by Kleinow and Ethridge in 1975.

Founded by ex-Byrds Gram Parsons and Chris Hillman, the Flying Burrito Brothers cultivated the country-rock sound originated by that duo's former band into a major movement whose reverberations are still felt to this day.
Though the Byrds' 'Sweetheart of The Rodeo' (1968) is the first alt.country record, it was The Flying Burrito Brothers (all Nudie suits, long hair, pedal steel and great tunes) who spearheaded the "Cosmic American Music" revolution, having to take much of the flak, whilst the infinitely inferior Eagles took much of the credit.
There are a lot of Flying Burrito Brothers releases out there and it can be hard for the curious to choose the right one to pick up- after all, a listen to some of the bands latterday material might scare off newcomers for good.

The Flying Burrito Brothers could be likened to the Velvet Underground; they didn't find much of an audience while they were around, but since they broke up they've attained iconic status.
The Burrito's mixture of country and western themes and sounds, mischievous rock 'n' roll spirit, and deep soul sentiments sounded like a divine inspiration, and they navigated this virgin territory like they had the map memorized.
Commercial pressures left their mark on the album -- gone are Kleinow's fuzz tones and the Aretha Franklin-worthy organ fills -- but the writing still scans everything that was great about American song-craft in the middle of the twentieth century through a pair of cowboy shades.

Even a die-hard Burritos fan like me would agree that the wind must be going out of their sails, here almost 30 years after the death of founder Gram Parsons and long after leaders Chris Hillman, Chris Ethredge, Rick Roberts, and now even Sneaky Pete Kleinow have left the band.
So it is, with the release of "Sons of the Golden West," that Burrito fans should figure, hey, what’s the point, with this latest incarnation, led by guitarist/singer John Beland.
The result is a very, very strong recording, bolstered by the strongest batch of songs and performances by the Burritos in a long, long time.

However, Parsons' restless spirit and the desire to produce the kind of music he heard in his head prompted him -- with the collaboration of Hillman -- to leave the Byrds behind and form the Flying Burrito Brothers.
A second album -- titled Burrito Deluxe -- appeared in the spring of 1970 but, once again, Parsons had moved on to newer pastures, recording two solo albums before dying of a drug overdose in 1973 at the tender age of 26.
Although the Flying Burrito Brothers would go on to record and release more albums, Parson's brief time with the band remains its most influential and finest hour.

Following the somewhat disappointing Burrito Deluxe, Gram Parsons and the Flying Burrito Brothers parted ways, leaving the band -- especially co-founder Chris Hillman -- with a huge void to fill.
And whereas Chris Hillman was great in a support role behind Parsons and during his days with the Byrds behind Roger McGuinn or Gene Clark, his role as co-leader with someone who lacks that sort of forceful personality only brings his weaknesses to the fore.
On the previous two Burrito recordings, Hillman co-wrote much of the best material and helped Parsons to realize his vision of "cosmic American music." But here the sound is much closer to that which bandmate Bernie Leadon would go on to record a year later with the Eagles.
