A proposal to allow a Wal-Mart Supercenter to be built between The Forum and Hollywood Park in Inglewood was soundly rejected today, despite the company spending more than $1 million on its campaign.
On the other side, Inglewood Mayor Roosevelt Dorn said Wal-Mart, which would be part of a 60-acre retail complex next to Hollywood Park racetrack, would bring about 1,200 jobs to the city and generate $3 million to $5 million in sales tax revenues.
Inglewood had nearly 50,000 registered voters in 2000, according to an almanac put out by the Los Angeles Newspaper Group.
