 | | Up front and first of all, I think The Frugal Gourmet jumped the shark in it's final season, but more because of the changes in the show than the controversy surrounding the man. With the addition of Craig Wollam as an almost-constant presence in Smith's kitchen came a format change that ruined the show. |
 | | In my mind, these ingredients became widely available as a result of the Frugal Gourmet's exposing the American public to them...and members of the public requesting that the ingredients be available at their local supermarket. |
 | | First, "frugal" doesn't mean "cheap", it means best-use, without waste, etc. For instance, he advocated buying the "best" equipment NOT because it was expensive or infinitely better, but IF it was longer-lasting than counterparts, it was wiser to buy great stuff ONE TIME, rather than the same thing every couple years. |
