The Futureheads - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The Futureheads are a four-member British indie rock band based in Sunderland, England.
A stand-alone EP "Area" was released in November 2005 while the band were working on their second album News and Tributes (name inspired by the Munich air disaster in 1958), which, according to NME in February 2006, took only five weeks to produce.
The first single from the album was Skip to the End released on May 15.

The Futureheads: The Futureheads: Pitchfork Review   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-10-11)
The Futureheads aren't looking to raze any musical foundations; they've simply put their ample vocal talents in a novel context: Their record recalls nothing so much as The Whiffenpoofs and The Lemon Drops of this world, if greatly scuzzed-up and adorned by jangly guitars and ferocious drumwork.
The album is frontloaded to a degree, as is the apparent protocol in these days of quotidian rock parvenus.
The Futureheads are at their weakest when they abandon vocal harmonies in favor of a more direct melodic approach; their greatest strength lies in their utilization of voice as a distinct melodic instrument in a loud, often strident context.

The Futureheads: The Futureheads (2004): Reviews
The Futureheads rely on actual chops and the kind of melodic astuteness usually associated with piano-pop balladeers, and in doing so, they exhibit complete control over their music and intertwining vocal deliveries.
A confident, rampant holler that bristles with the energies of prime new wave, the proselytising vigour of the most barnstorming white soul, and the wry, cerebral kickback of most of the artier artists of the last thirty years.
The Futureheads reclaim pop punk from the Warped Tour crowd -- and revive it in the process.

The Futureheads MP3 Downloads - The Futureheads Music Downloads - The Futureheads Music Videos
On their self-titled full-length debut, the Futureheads turn the promise of their early EPs and singles into an almost relentlessly playful, lively, and smart album of zippy post-punk-pop.
Futureheads includes a few songs from the 123 Nul and First Day EPs, and while the album doesn't exactly suffer from the inclusion of tracks like "Robot," "Carnival Kids," and "First Day," the band's newer work shows how they've already refined and expanded their sound since they wrote these songs.
As distinctive as the Futureheads' sound is, the album's standout track is a cover: their tremendous version of Kate Bush's "Hounds of Love" captures the breathless buzz of falling in love.

I found much of the new futureheads album "News and Tributes" on hype machine, and I have to say it sucks.
It lacks the vitality of their first album and does not achieve a broader or more mature sound.
After a few listens, the album appears very disjointed and lacks the focus on the 2004 debut.

The music of the Futureheads takes many forms — sometimes they stick to the traditional melody, and other times, they all (two guitars, bass and drums) seem to just play to what they want to hear, making the sound a clash — in a good way.
Some of the stand out tracks of the album include “Hounds of Love”, “Carnival Kids” and “A to B” amongst others which are almost equally brilliant.

And The Futureheads are at the forefront of this.
Their eponymous debut album, two years in the making, simmerswith all of the pent-up tension that you would expect from a band who have experienced Blair’s Britain, and are distinctly unimpressed with it.
But to take this album purely as a socio-political statement would be incredibly pretentious of me. The reason The Futureheads is so good is because, quite simply, the music is simply stunning.

The Futureheads - The Futureheads CD Review
The Futureheads is a funky and very “now”-sounding album that seems to slide around the throwback ‘80s/garage rock sound that’s currently popular and infuses its own sort of hip and irreverent spin on poppy, bubbly rock.
The short nature of the tracks and of the album as a whole helps to fight the pervading sense that there is less here than it would seem.
The album contains songs that hearken back to the band’s inception in 2000 and it is easy to see how and why these four gentlemen care only for their music and the joy it brings them and their audiences.

Tracks set for inclusion on the new album include 'Fallout', 'Skip To The End', 'Face', 'Worry About It Later', 'Return Of The Berserker' and the title track, which the band explained was inspired by the 1958 Munich air disaster, which killed several young Manchester United players.

Hailing from the small northeastern English city of Sunderland, The Futureheads appear to be the one band who are poised to follow in Franz Ferdinand's footsteps, and if their debut album is any indication, Stateside success beckons.
If Franz Ferdinand's album is oozing with enough style to convince even the most jaded indie rock fans to dance, The Futureheads' debut album is bound to bring pogoing back in vogue.
The performance is so great, in fact, that it tends to distract from the rest of the album, the band's original compositions not quite measuring up to this cover.

The Futureheads - Debut album ‘The Futureheads’ Released July 12 2004 on 679 Recordings
The Futureheads seem so potently to be about something urgent and meaningful (are, I understand, about such things), that to not fully grasp what these things might be is irrelevant.
‘The Futureheads’ is, if you’ll excuse the cliché, the record the Futureheads have always threatened to make, and for that it has definitely been worth the extra half a year wait.
Throughout, however, the Futureheads use of harmonies and call-and-response vocals, plus the sheer lyrical overload of having all four members in possession of a microphone, makes them quite unlike anyone else you’re likely to have heard before.

Now, when the Futureheads play up this "futuristic" faceless quality in their lyrics, as with "Robot" or “Meantime” (“you are a decent person and you have a function”) or the chipper corporate-cog tchune "First Day" ("we are so happy to have you join the team!") they're just being cheeky.

Things don't die down after that, from the Devo-esque "Robot" to the heavy-guitar, dadaesque "Man Ray." Not that everything is all the same -- the Futureheads are one of the few rock bands who don't rely on the same riffs and beats to achieve catchiness.
