A console game (better known as a "video game") is a form of interactive multimedia used for entertainment, which consists of a moveable image displayed on a screen that is usually controlled and manipulated using a handheld device connected to a game console called a controller.
Game multimedia usually comes in the form of a disk which can be inserted into a game console which can then be connected to a television.
Video game manufacturers usually exercise tight control over the games that are made available on their systems, so unusual or special-interest games are more likely to appear as PC games.

Bad Subjects: Video Games and the New Look Domesticity
At a time when the difference between a television, a computer, or a video game console is more a matter of their peripherals and room location than their functionality, the video game console has become a new inhabitant of the domestic landscape.
In the early to mid-1950s, television moved in from the wild to be integrated into the living room, as a piece of furniture and a metaphor for travel to different realms.
The video game itself trades on the idea of a domesticated VR experience, where the medium of television is pitted against the visceral participation required for gameplay.

 Video Games and Aggression
The latter is somewhat irrelevant, and the increased aggression in the fantasy and role-play measures, far from confirming the hypothesis that games cause aggression, is entirely consistent with the catharsis hypothesis; that is, it might be precisely the fantasy aggression that releases the energy that would otherwise be expressed as aggressive behaviour.
The authors concluded that their results tended to show that results were more consistent with catharsis theory and that violent video games discharge aggressive impulses in a socially acceptable way and that playing violent video games may have a short-term beneficial effect for the children playing them.
If care is taken in the design, and if games are put into the right context, they have the potential to be used as training aids in classrooms and therapeutic settings, and to provide skills in psychomotor co-ordination in simulations of real life events, e.g.

Music, Television and Video Games and Their Effect on Children
Television can be very powerful in influencing children, but it is not the only medium that can affect children.
Peggy Charren, director of Action for Children's Television, said in a recent article that when, "properly used, quality television introduces children to a world beyond their classroom and motivates them to learn." She goes on to say that children can relate easily to t.v.
A recent study found that, "the two most preferred categories were games that involved fantasy violence, preferred by almost 32% of subjects; and sports games, some of which contained violent subthemes, which were preferred by more than 29%."
