As a homosexual in a seemingly stable relationship, I have thought about the gay marriage issue for a grand total of about thirty seconds.
If nothing else, allowing gay people to legally marry is a wonderful thing if your interest is in reasserting the ubiquity of divorce in modern society.
Of course the same fact doesn't stop many other people from "weighing in" on the "raging debate." How I loathe the public discourse crucial to the health of a free society.

Ginger Rogers & Fred Astaire 2: The Gay Divorcee (1934) at Reel Classics
The first of the series to feature Ginger and Fred as the main attraction, THE GAY DIVORCEE (1934) is also one of their films with a more-creative-than-average plot stringing the musical numbers together -- and it's especially interesting today as a look back at the way marriage laws used to work.
Yes, THE GAY DIVORCEE has its fair share of weaknesses.
Also, THE GAY DIVORCEE was based on a musical Fred had done on Broadway called The Gay Divorce, but the Hays Office (the film industry's censorship body) required the name change because it didn't like the sentiment which the play's title implied.

Based on the play "The Gay Divorce", in which Fred had starred on the stage, "The Gay Divorcee" was the first film to focus on Fred and Ginger as the lead players.
