		Strait of Georgia from Burnaby Mountain, with Galiano Island and Vancouver Island in the distance
		The Strait of Georgia (also known as Georgia Strait and the Gulf of Georgia) is a 240 km (150 mi)-long strait between Vancouver Island (as well as its nearby Gulf Islands) and the mainland Pacific coast of British Columbia, Canada.
		Other potential problems are the width and depth of the strait and the soft consistency of the strait floor, as well as high seismic activity in the Vancouver Island region, and that the Strait is a heavily-used navigation channel.

		Georgia was notorious for keeping the 76 embossed onto newer plates well into the 80's.

		The Georgia Straight is a free Canadian weekly news and entertainment newspaper published in Vancouver, British Columbia by the Vancouver Free Press Publishing Corp. As surveyed by Ipsos-Reid its per-issue circulation average is 117,000, and its average weekly readership is almost 534,000.
		The paper was founded as an anti-establishment alternative newspaper in May, 1967 by Dan McLeod, Stan Persky, and others, and originally it operated as a collective.
		An attempt in the mid-1990s at launching a second Straight publication in Calgary, Alberta (the Calgary Straight) was short-lived.

		For over 30 years the Georgia Straight has been an integral part of the Vancouver newspaper scene.
		Starting as a fringe paper in the 60’s, it attracted more than its fair share of adverse publicity but came through it all to be one of the most significant "free" weekly papers in North America, outlasting many of its early critics.
		A video made by the independent film producers, Tony Wade and Tom Crichton in 1997 entitled, "The Last Street Fighter—the History of the Georgia Straight" is a wonderful look at the story of the paper and of Dan Mcleod, its original and only publisher.
