Interspersed with the film's chronicling of one season in the life of The Joffrey Ballet is the story of the romance between a dancer in the company, Ry (Neve Campbell), and a young chef named Josh (James Franco).
Earlier in the film, there's another silent (except for the music) scene to go in the Altman pantheon: the director cuts between Ry coming home to her tiny apartment, unwinding and relaxing, with a fellow Joffrey dancer, Alec (Davis Robertson) rehearsing in the studio.

Little Audrey makes a gingerbread man, then takes a nap and dreams that the Gingerbread Man goes to cakeland where he tries to marry his sweetheart, Angel Cake.
The baking iconography which permeates the film is amusing, and the story is clever.
Audrey helps Angel get all dolled up for the wedding, then watches as she strolls down the aisle, meets her beau and then is abducted and carried away by the evil Devilfood.

JoBlo's movie review of Shrek 2: Mike Myers, Eddie Murphy, Cameron Diaz
I also liked seeing the old crew back in action, especially Eddie Murphy's Donkey, which is pretty much the only thing Murphy seems to have done right in the past few years, as well as the cute side-kicks a la Pinocchio and the Gingerbread Man, who all make valiant "cameo" appearances nearing the film's conclusion.
A creepier, darker side of the film also helped keep things fresh, including a nice rendition of an evil Fairy Godmother, as well as a run-down drinking hole featuring Captain Hook drunkenly playing the piano for such notables as the headless horseman and others (I don't want to give too much away).
The new addition that really took this film to another level though was the introduction of its latest star, Puss 'n Boots, voiced brilliantly by Antonio Banderas, and featuring one of the more unforgettable animated character "sad faces" of all-time.

 Shrek 2
The episode of "Knights" is seen by Pinocchio, Gingerbread Man and the Three Little Pigs on television (the magic mirror) as they house-sit Shrek's swamp abode.
``Shrek 2,'' expected for a 2004 release, is being co-written by Ted Elliott and Terry Rossio, the same team behind the original ``Shrek'' and the 1992 hit Disney-animated film ''Aladdin.'' Voice work for the original film reportedly took four years to record, with several stops and starts.
Deciding to rescue Shrek and Donkey, the film moves into high gear as the Fairytale group resort to a ridiculously entertaining way to save them and storm the castle.

slant // magazine.com: Film Review - Surviving Christmas
urviving Christmas rings in the yuletide yucks with an opening montage of miserable people beset by the anti-holiday spirit, including a man who throws a poorly wrapped present out the window and an old granny who puts her head, instead of dour-looking gingerbread man cookies, into the oven.
However, what's really off-putting is how the film chastises Drew (during the requisite third-act crisis) for mistakenly thinking he can purchase the past, yet allows the whorish Valco clan to have its Christmas cake and eat it too by accepting Drew as a surrogate member of the family while still keeping his money.
Gags about incest, Sonny Bono's fatal skiing accident, and Drew's freakishly long, ahem, "candy cane" are emblematic of the film's unimaginative sense of humor.

Rescue the Princess is an easy adventure game, Character Morph lets you create your own silly versions of the movies characters (put Farquaad's head on Donkey's shoulders and Fiona's legs, for example), and Dress Up the Gingerbread Man features the cute cookie tarted up like a farmer, a sailor, a dog, and more.

And indeed Janssen received more chances--in films large and small, a couple in the latter category with such luminaries as Robert Altman and Woody Allen, who cast her in The Gingerbread Man and Celebrity, respectively.
But what he and Janssen certainly have a lot to say about is Love & Sex, an experience that she more favorably compares to the ones she's had as an X-Man and a 007 nemesis.
Movies don't usually get much more fanciful than Janssen's other film this summer, the comic book-based sci-fi extravaganza (er, x-travaganza) X-Men.

Fortunately, Altman is a lively interviewee who isn't afraid to name names when describing the botched release of The Gingerbread Man, and he's equally animated when discussing how studio mogul Jack Warner nearly sabotaged Altman's career by seizing control of Altman's early film Marooned.
Granted, Altman has produced a goodly number of films in his day and to give all of them due coverage would not be practical for a DVD aiming to span his entire career.
Even then, Altman was beginning to experiment with unconventional uses of dialogue mixing and visual style; we can be grateful that he continued to cut a unique path to filmmaking greatness.

About a month ago, Altman announced he would petition the Directors Guild to erase his name from Gingerbread if PolyGram Pictures insisted on releasing a recut version of the movie.
After a series of disappointing test screenings, PolyGram brought in editor Don Cambern to recut the film which had been edited by Geraldine Peroni, Oscar-nominated for her work on Altman's The Player.
Altman seemed to be lining up potential allies to wage a publicity war with PolyGram in case the studio did go ahead with the recut version.

 Amazon.ca: DVD: Gingerbread Man
It's a totally absorbing movie made in the modern film-noir tradition; what's most interesting here (and most underrated by critics at the time) is the combination of Grisham's mainstream mystery and the offbeat style of maverick director Robert Altman.
Sporting a spot-on Georgian accent, Kenneth Branagh plays a Savannah attorney who comes to the assistance of a troubled woman (Embeth Davidtz) and finds himself enmeshed in a scenario involving the woman's father (Robert Duvall) that grows increasingly complex and dangerous, where nothing, of course, is really as it seems.
Rather, it's based on an original screenplay by Grisham that displays the author's familiar flair for Southern characters and settings within a labyrinthine plot propelled by his trademark narrative twists and turns.

FILM REVIEW HHH: ‘Shrek,’ for All Ages -- The Greatest Fairy Tale Ever Told
Lord Farquaad enjoys torturing the Gingerbread Man by dunking him in milk.
In exchange, Lord Farquaad will return peace to Shrek& swamp, where noisy fairy tale characters have been “relocated.” Of course, every animated fairy tale has a sidekick, and Shrek unwillingly brings along a talking donkey (featuring the voice of Eddie Murphy).
The tale begins when the evil Lord Farquaad (demonically and comically played by John Lithgow) sends the ogre Shrek (whose Scottish brogue comes from Mike Myers) to save Princess Fiona (Cameron Diaz) from, of course, a remote castle guarded by a fiery dragon.
