Golden Palominos, the - Satan Stole My Teddybear
The Golden Palominos again do us the favor of taking on a familiar sound, running it through a creative blender and showing us how it sounds when done right.
Possibly the most bizarre and surreal Golden Palominos record of them all, this strange journey narrated by Nicole Blackman is truly an adventure into a darker side of reality that you may never thought existed before.
Palomino leader Anton Fier does, to his credit, create a musical base that is inventive and compelling, but it is her words and narration that makes this work.

The Golden Palominos - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The Golden Palominos was an American musical group headed by drummer and composer Anton Fier, first formed in 1981.
Apart from Fier, the Palominos membership was wildly elastic; While the Palominos records usually featured a core set of musicians and emotional feel though the bulk of an album, various guest appearances would result in some stylistic changes from track to track.
Much of the Golden Palominos work has become increasingly hard to find, and compilations do not provide a complete overview of their work.

 TrouserPress.com :: Golden Palominos
The Palominos' diverse sound (this is one band that never warranted accusations of repeating itself) arises from the different sets of musicians assembled for each record.
The Palominos add (Mark Miller, Fred Frith, Nicky Skopelitis) and subtract (most often Tacuma and Moss) players while preserving the basic material, tossing in a couple of new things ("Hot Seat," a song mostly by Miller, and "Cookout," a Fier percussion piece).
The second phase of Fier's Palomino experiment took an entirely different direction, converting a loose caravan of talent into an unstable side-group which sporadically performs and records in countless permutations and combinations.

POP: GOLDEN PALOMINOS - New York Times
Led by the drummer Anton Fier, the Golden Palominos are an in-group supergroup -an occasional assembly of cult figures from jazz, rock and pop.
The remaining Palominos, on Thursday, were the jazz composer Carla Bley on organ, Jody Harris of the Raybeats on lead guitar, Lisa Herman on harmony vocals and synthesizer, and Chris Stamey - the songwriter whose band opened the show - on bass.
Yet too much of the Golden Palominos' set failed to live up to the band members' combined resumes, and for a simple reason: While the beat was compelling, the melodies were often arbitrary.

The Golden Palominos | Music Artist | Videos, News, Photos & Ringtones | MTV
The Golden Palominos were not a group per se, but rather the revolving-door project of drummer, programmer, and bandleader Anton Fier.
In its primary live incarnation, the band was an avant-funk supergroup comprised of Fier and another drummer, David Moss, saxophonist John Zorn, guitarist Arto Lindsay, and a pair of bassists, Bill Laswell and Jamaaladeen Tacuma; on their self-titled 1983 debut, the Palominos were augmented by Fred Frith, Nicky Skopelitis and Mark Miller.
Dead Inside would be the final album by the Golden Palominos with various compilations being the only additions to the discography.

Golden Palominos, Visions of Excess --- In retrospect, the reason I bought this album is rather slight.
I was in Florence, Italy in September and developed a short-lived crush on an American college student there who played me a Golden Palominos record while I was talking to her in her apartment.
At the time of this record, the Palominos were definitely toward the rock end of the spectrum, but the passage of time has unearthed a groove and ambient side of Fier's work that I preferred when I heard my friend's CD.

Anton Fier - Biography - AOL Music
Drummer and producer Anton Fier was best known as the leader -- and sole constant member -- of the all-star downtown New York City band the Golden Palominos.
After leaving the group, he joined the punk-jazz unit the Lounge Lizards before returning home to Cleveland, where he was recruited by the legendary new wave band Pere Ubu for the album Song of the Bailing Man.
After exiting Ubu, Fier again relocated to New York, where he founded the first Golden Palominos lineup in 1981, issuing the group's self-titled debut LP two years later.

The Golden Palominos are a New York-based studio group masterminded by ace drummer/producer Anton Fier.
Fier remains the only consistent member of the Palominos from album to album (albeit with occasional holdover members), and he always has a continuing revolving door of musicians and singers to round out the Palominos line-up on each album.
The best shot the Palominos have had so far at achieving mainstream success was with 1994's "Pure," an astounding CD that is not only a work of genius, and the Palominos' best album, but is also far-and-away, hands-down the most *erotic* album ever recorded.

From the avant-funk of the Golden Palominos' debut onward, each edition of the band has explored styles ranging from Hoboken-style guitar jangle (VISIONS OF EXCESS, BLAST OF SILENCE), to proto-alt country (A DEAD HORSE), to cinematic trip-hop (THIS IS HOW IT FEELS).
More smoothly poppy than any previous Palominos album, these songs, featuring Lori Carson's exquisitely sexy voice, are gentler than titles like "Gun," "No Skin," and "Little Suicides" would lead you to believe.

As the album title might suggest, 1996`s DEAD INSIDE is not the most cheerful album you`re going to hear.
Largely dispensing with the sort of proto-alt country of the Golden Palominos` previous few records--although there`s still a hint of twang here and there--DEAD INSIDE instead favors ark-hued electronics, spooky atmospherics, and an almost all-encompassing sense of dread.
From the first track, "Ride," in which singer Lori Carson chillingly details her own death at the hands of a serial killer, through songs like "Victim," "Belfast," "Drown," and "You Are Never Ready," Carson, drummer/bandleader Anton Fier and company explore a relentlessly somber but never garishly angst-ridden darkness.

Blast of Silence - The Golden Palominos - Music Reviews
With Blast of Silence the group that began as an outlet for drummer Anton Fier and his friends in the New York avant-garde scene (Arto Lindsay, Fred Frith, etc.) unexpectedly veers off into country-rock and folk, of all places.
Rather, Fier and company, which includes singers Syd Straw and Mathew Sweet, organist Bernie Worrell, and guitarists T-Bone Burnett and Don Dixon, experiment with confidence on songs like Lowell George's "I've Been the One," adding raga percussion to the C&W ballad.
The rest of the album is filled with such musical daring and is a worthy addition for fans of both Palominos and the avant garde scene alike.

With Blackman providing appropriately bleak poetry, Fier has created one of the most evocative and disturbing soundscapes to grace any Golden Palominos album.
