Get Ready to ROCK! Review of CD album by Grease Band first issued in 1971 and reissued with bonus BBC radio tracks
Whilst it's good to see the release of this 1971 eponymous debut, originally issued on the Harvest label, it is rather of its time.
Taking a cue from American contemporaries such as The Band and Creedence Clearwater, Grease Band's laid-back and essentially good-time style also aligns them with bands such as Duck's Deluxe and Brinsley Schwarz, but at times also brings to mind the rumbustiousness of The Faces.
The Grease Band started out life as backing band to the hit-selling vocalist Joe Cocker and broke away from this singer in 1969.

Hampton Grease Band - Free Music Downloads, Videos, Lyrics, CDs, MP3s, Bio, Merchandise and Links
Hampton Grease Band began as a blues-rock-oriented outfit in the late '60s in Atlanta, where the underground rock scene was barely big enough to support them.
The band often betrayed the Zappa influence in their theatrical, sometimes confrontational stage show, in which Hampton would throw chairs at the audience, or sing while standing on a pizza.
Hampton Grease Band generated enough of a reputation, though, to pique the interest of Columbia Records, whose curiosity incited Allman Brothers manager Phil Walden to sign the group.

Witnessing the Grease on stage is like witnessing a kinetic drug-addled freak-show, and it's certainly more entertaining than many a band around.
All members of the band have their distinct characters: there's the crazy antics of the white-coated Lewarne on vocals, flanked by Steve Santacruz's guitar shapes and Stuart Faulkner, in tiny pink pants, on bass.
The band set off on a frenetic pace, with tracks like the rocking "Fever" and the sax-driven "Pink G.R.E.A.S.E" accompanied by shouts from the increasingly mental Faulkner who attempts to write on the floor during various moments of the set.

If an indie band touring in a bus sounds posh, well, it kind of is. The Constants’ tour rig is outfitted with living space and a full kitchen (which makes it much easier for the band’s two vegetarian members to tour).
While the band laughs about the amount of time they’ve spent searching for veggie oil in the alleyways of America, they’re most excited about the time they spend getting to play music every day.
