Rough Edge: The Great Deceiver CD Reviews
If you've had any experience listening to The Great Deceiver you probably already know that the band doesn't play hardcore like most people are familiar with it.
The Great Deceiver is not a band that I'll be listening to frequently as I prefer my metal to be faster and certainly more aggressive than the band ever achieves.
The Great Deceiver is Tomas Lindberg on vocals, Kristian Wahlin on guitars, Johan Osterberg on guitars, Matti Lundell on bass, and Hans Nilsson on drums.

Tomas Lindberg is still revered for his time spent in the seminal Swedish death metal band At The Gates, and since that band's demise he has shown up in a variety of groups, mostly tied to death metal either directly or indirectly.
The Great Deceiver is not a death metal band, and thus is kind of the fl sheep of the Lindberg family of bands.
Surprisingly, the genre that The Great Deceiver might be closest to is nu-metal -- they are not a nu-metal band, but have some nu-metal characteristics, and with a different vocalist (one of those half-crooning, half-hardcore-shouting types that most nu-metal bands employ) the similarities would be more noticeable.

"The Great Deceiver is the ultimate "live" instruction manual, essential for any rock musician for an academic-level understanding of truly creative live performance (along with The Who's "Live at Leeds").
Since I do not know how that could be, and thought the Great Deceiver recording was pretty boss, all in all, I guess I'll just say that it's quite a thing to hear reincarnated.

At $18, less than half the price of Great Deceiver, it is a good deal, but isn't close to being the equal of Great Deciever.
Now, while the other reviewers cover how great the album is as a whole, I'd like to share my input in a more focused manner.
Also the unreleased track Doctor Diamond, sounding like a mix of One More Red Nightmare and The Great Deceiver, is a great track that Fripp believed was too "weak" to be included on Red.

The Great Deceiver: present day Katatonia meets a harsh mixture of metal and industrial sounds with a slight At the Gates twang, twisted and delivered in a sound all their own.
This may be far from accurate, but The Great Deceiver are certainly a tough customer when it comes to pigeonholing them into a specific genre or sound.
The Great Deceiver is another of ex-At the Gates vocalist Tomas Lindberg's endeavours, and also includes the musical talents of Diabolique guitarist and well-known graphical artist Kristian Wahlin.

KING CRIMSON The Great Deceiver: Live 1973 - 1974 review by Sean Trane(Hugues Chantraine)
Clearly on of the main criteria of selection will be the sound, which would almost automatically dismiss the third potion if it was not for the fantastically superb and superlative improv Asbury Park still not available elsewhere.
A whopping four improvs (most of them average quality — which means they develop into nothing special - but great to hear anyway) grace this disc and one strange Doctor Diamond, which is (as far as I know) a full composition never available anywhere else — and a worthy one too.
In my case, I consider this box-set indispensable and even more than absolutely essential (it has a superb booklet and tons of improvs), and I still like the USA live album for historical reasons, so The Nightwatch might just be the odd one out.

Rebirth is known for having a devastating live performance, and posses the ability to turn a "non-metal" croud into a mass of raving metal lunatics.
They have earned a tremendous amount of respect in the metal community after the self-release of their first album, "The Great Deceiver".
Their first album "The Great Deceiver" consists of ten songs described by Jon, a staff writer for Pit Magazine, as being "Raw, Aggressive, and just overall damn good." In contrast from the nine heavy songs, Rebirth did throw in an extremely soft and melodic song entitled "The Cycles that Bind Us."

BIOGRAPHICAL DATA: Formed in 1998, Sweden's The Great Deceiver features ex-At the Gates vocalist, Tomas Lindberg, but the band's sound is quite different from the vocalist's previous unit.
Within a year of being together, The Great Deceiver would sign with Swedish independent label, Bridge Records (European affiliate of New Jersey's Trustkill Records), and release its mini-CD/10" "Jet-Black Art." Combining elements of hardcore and metal, the band, both lyrically and musically, has been compared to a Sepultura-meets-Neurosis.
The Great Deceiver has toured extensively around Sweden, and is currently working on a new, forthcoming full-length.

Sweden's crusty, noisy, HEAVY scary quintet, The Great Deceiver is the band to which I am referring.
On what I believe is their debut EP, Jet Black Art, the band breaks ground with every gut wrenching, agonized song.
In addition, the band's intelligent melding of hardcore, metal and punk, and the convincing vocal delivery makes Jet Black Art quite a disc, even if it is only five songs/16 minutes long.

But no doubt that this is because bands like them have ripped off the Swede's melodic death metal sound and tried to make it their own.
Some songs are just plain boring and could even make you go to sleep but that is made up by songs like 'Today', 'Conspiracy Theorist', which show how diverse and talented The Great Deceiver can be.

The Great Deceiver (band) - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The Great Deceiver named after a King Crimson song) formed around 1996/97, immediately after At The Gates split.
Rather than chase a record deal too quickly, the band spent a long while with heads down, and focused on creating a style and sound that was distinctive and original.
The EP was a marriage of de-tuned war like aggression, socially conscious lyrics andpunishing grooves, all carried off with industrial precision.

The Great Deceiver is calamitously balanced between metal and a psychedelic warp-hole.
Lindberg may still sound the same, and he's doing a good job, but I believe that there is still a lot that can be achieved when they truly integrate all the elements of the songs, leaving A Venom Well Designed only half way to being a masterpiece.
