  The Great Muppet Caper (1993)
The Great Muppet Caper followed in a same vein; while I can’t clearly say I preferred it to the original flick, it succeeded in some ways that the 1979 piece didn’t.
Caper was possibly the most tongue in cheek of the three, and its sly attitude carries the day throughout the film.
The Great Muppet Caper appears in both an aspect ratio of approximately 1.85:1 and in a fullscreen version on this double-sided, single-layered DVD; the widescreen image has been enhanced for 16X9 televisions.

The Muppets are fond of breaking down that pesky fourth wall, which gives the movie some of its cleverest moments and will elicit the biggest laughs from the kids.
The Great Muppet Caper boasts crowd-pleasingly silly musical numbers which combine with clever jokes and sight gags that range from innocently goofy to relatively sophisticated, clearly taking into consideration the audience's wide range of ages.
The Great Muppet Caper is, of course, populated by Henson's very cuddly and adorable creations, but is also smart enough to know that while cute can carry you a long way on a short T.V. show, a feature length film requires a little more effort.

The Muppets are a wonderful creation, but they lose their special quality in "The Great Muppet Caper." They behave like clones of other popular kiddie superstars -- like the basic cartoon heroes they once seemed destined to replace.
Jim Henson's original inspiration with the Muppets was to invest them with very real human qualities: Miss Piggy's vanity and insecurity, Kermit's insouciant inquisitiveness, Fozzie's fuzzy desire to be loved, and so on.
That was the approach of many of the Muppet TV episodes and of the original "The Muppet Movie" (1979).

The music, while not as poignant as that of "The Muppet Movie," is from Joe Raposo, prolific Sesame Street composer who wrote the words and music for the Sesame Street Theme, C Is For Cookie, Bein' Green, Sing, Doin' The Pigeon, and many other Sesame classics.
The music here is great, ranging from classic Astaire-style numbers like "Steppin Out With A Star," sung by Kermit, Fozzie, and Gonzo, to a rockin bluegrassy-dixieland style song, "Happiness Hotel" that introduces us to the rest of the Muppet Gang in a shack-nasty hotel in London.

This is really a huge departure from the normal Muppet movies of the time, and it may take a little while to see these characters playing out of their normal roles.
It’s not a bad idea, because the Muppets bring a lot of comedy to their roles, and we are supposed to suspend disbelief and believe that they really do talk and walk and can go about their lives like we see on film.
With The Great Muppet Caper, what we have is an installment that is intended to be interesting and fun, while adding a little more drama to the lives on the main characters.
