		The Great Race is a 1965 slapstick comedy movie directed by Blake Edwards, written by Blake Edwards and Arthur A. Ross, with music by Henry Mancini and cinematography by Russell Harlan.
		The race begins and Fate's sidekick, Max Meen (Peter Falk), has carried out his master's instructions to fatally sabotage all the other cars except Leslie's (and DuBois' since she was late to the starting grid).
		Fate's motivation is for the race to be a one-to-one standup fight between himself and Leslie.

	The Great Race
		Cambridge University, who race Waikato University for the Harry Mahon Memorial Trophy, have announced they will be carrying a ‘teka’ (Maori carving) in their boat to motivate them during the Great Race, on Saturday 2 September.
		The Gallagher Great Race has been set for September 2, with the titanic clash between Cambridge and Waikato universities expected to draw the crowds.
		Great Race crew members in both the men’s and women’s crews have consistently represented New Zealand internationally and 2006 is no different.

	The Great Race - about the great race
		The race is treated very seriously by both crews and visiting coxwains and coaches are given full briefings on the complexities of the Waikato river and the race course.
		The Great Race begins at 2pm and is covered by National Radio and Television and commentated by Peter Montgomery (the voice of the Americas Cup!).
		A 40 square metre screen allows those at the finish line to watch the race live and speakers lining the banks of the river (both at the start and finish) allow spectators to listen to the live commentary to ensure that no one misses out no matter where they are watching the race from.

		The sport of “fixed-seat/open-water rowing” is rapidly expanding into the mainstream, as evidenced at the hotly contested “Icebreaker: Northeast Regional Youth Open Water Rowing Championships,” hosted by the Hull Lifesaving Museum every year in Boston Harbor.

	Rowing glides into history with win - Sports
		On Saturday, UCF women's rowing paddled to its eighth state title at the Florida Intercollegiate Rowing Association Championship and in the process did something that has never been done in the history of UCF rowing.
		Over the weekend in Tampa, the Knights were near the top of all the race categories except one, finishing first in five of the seven races.
		Last year's rowing team finished second behind a strong Miami team, but this year the Knights were able to stymie the Hurricanes and finish in first.

		In their final day of racing at the IRA National Championships in Camden, N.J., the University of Michigan men's rowing team had mixed results, with the Varsity 8 boat posting a fifth place finish in their petite final and the open 4+ boat finishing sixth in their petite final.
		After pushing the races back a day from Saturday, the Wolverines finished first in a number of early heats before the day's schedule was abbreviated with Varsity 8 final as the only final the Wolverines had a chance to compete in due to the weather.

		In honour of that great if tragic occasion, the Village of Renforth is hosting "Regatta 125." It is both a historical re-enactment of that race held just four years after Confederation as well as a competitive modern race, one that is about history, heritage and old connections forged anew.
		The race slated for Saturday is 6,000 metres long, three times the length of the Olympic events.

		This phenomenon of rowing distance not equating to the distance to go to the finish illustrates a major consideration in boat and aircraft navigation.
		In this rowing race the Great Circle route, the most direct line on a sphere between 2 points, may not be the quickest.
		Some teams may have considered it better to head south asap so that the rowing conditions would be better and they would not have been influenced by storms for as long as they would have been on a direct route.

		The Bison swept all four races against Loyola and George Mason in the morning, and then won all four races they entered in the afternoon against Fordham, Temple and Lehigh.
