 Mother Clap's Molly House
Mother Clap and her company would have gone unmolested were it not for the jealousy of an embittered homosexual turned informant named Mark Partridge.
Mother Clap’s house bore no specific name; it was a private residence and coffee house rather than a public inn or tavern.
Having only one defence, Mother Clap, with great presence of mind (and no little sense of irony), indignantly addressed the jury thus: ‘I hope it will be consider’d that I am a Woman, and therefore it cannot be thought that I would ever be concern’d in such Practices’.

Tony Harrison’s poem, “Timer,” was more of a poem about the symbolism of the wedding ring in the relationship between his mother and father; however, this poem also focused on Harrison’s relationship with his mother more so than his relationship with his father (represented in “Marked With D”).
Harrison showed his loyalty as a son and made sure this was done, but unfortunately, his mother’s ring would not burn, “Gold survives the fire that’s hot enough.” This phrase could be interpreted as love conquers all because the gold ring symbolized a committed bond of love that never died.
Harrison treasured speech so much and the thought of him losing part of that made him feel guilty and writing was perhaps a way to deal with those feelings as well.
