Well, OK not exactly a Halo Benders show, but "Probably the closest we'll get to that in a long time," in Calvin Johnson's words who joined Built to Spill for a few songs at the end of their latest tour.
Built to Spill are currently winding up their "Ancient Melodies of the Future" tour in Portland, OR and Seattle, WA and invited Calvin onstage to perform "Don't Touch My Bikini" and "Love Travels Faster" among others, ending with a daring 15 minute version of "Freebird" to close the set.
For someone like me who's been wanting to see The Halo Benders for quite some time, this was an especially nice treat.

But regarding Halo 2 it is one of two reasons to own as Xbox.
The highly anticipated sequel to the best selling game of 2003, Halo 2 was the sequel that made gamers change their overall outlook on video game sequels(I, like many others, live by the saying "nothing beats the original") however, Halo 2 is what changed everyones mind very quick.
Xbox owners without this, or at least the first Halo in their collection, is seriously cheating themselves out of the ultimate Xbox experience.

In fact, the new Halo Benders album, The Rebels Not In, is already ancient history to him -- he's busy working on upcoming K releases by ICU, D+, Gaze and Cadillaca, plus a various-artists compilation titled Selector Dub Narcotic.
There won't be any Halo Benders tour, and after recording this album last July, Martsch quickly re-immersed himself in Built to Spill.
Noticeably more consistent than the first two Halo Benders albums (1994's God Don't Make No Junk and 1996's Don't Tell Me Now), Rebels is where the band's creative tension truly sparks into flame, as Martsch's reedy voice and spacy guitar explorations perfectly accent Johnson's oddball baritone and spartan pop hooks.

Don't tell me now - Halo Benders falter with second effort   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-10-26)
The Halo Benders demonstrated this fact on their first album, God Don't Make No Junk, which amazingly transformed musical and lyrical clichés into a bunch of witty, addictive tunes.
They have instrumentation that is spare enough to highlight the dry hilarity of their lyrics, but still manages to at once conjure up melancholic thoughts of go-go bands and lounge acts from the '60s.
My hypothesis is that the success of God Don't Make no Junk made the Halo Benders a little too conscious of what they were supposed to sound like.

In 1994, the Halo Benders issued their debut 7", "Canned Oxygen," on Atlas Records, and soon followed it with their first full-length album, God Don't Make No Junk, on Johnson's K Records.
While Built to Spill was in the midst of assembling its major-label debut, the Halo Benders recorded a follow-up album, Don't Tell Me Now, which appeared in 1996 and featured instrumental contributions from BtS producer Phil Ek.
As Built to Spill's touring schedule got busier, the Halo Benders went on an indefinite hiatus.

The Halo Benders: The Rebels Not In: Pitchfork Review   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-10-26)
The Halo Benders initially seemed like a one-off featuring the talents of Doug Martsch (from Built To Spill) and Calvin Johnson (from Beat Happening), but has, by some great miracle become a regular band.
The Rebels Not In is their third record together and the songs are just as fun to sing along with as they always are.
The new record holds up suprising well when pitted against the Benders' earlier stuff and while there's nothing as compelling as their first hit single, "Don't Touch My Bikini," but songs like "Virginia Reel Around The Fountain" and "Foggy Bottom" come pretty close.

"Halo Bender" is a charmingly pointless theme song ("You think you're heaven-sent/Gonna get your halo bent...It's the halo bender/a real career ender...The Halo Benders/washing all your dreams away"); the lovely "Mercury Blues," gentle and pretty, is no more readily comprehensible.
Calvin intones "Bomb Shelter Part 2" in a deadpan Homer Simpson voice, offering a confusing tribute to draft dodgers, military deserters and conscientious objectors.
