Topic: The Hand of Oberon

Oberon programming language - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Oberon is a reflective programming language created in 1986 by Professor Niklaus Wirth (creator of the Pascal, Modula, and Modula-2 programming languages) and his associates at ETHZ in Switzerland.
Oberon, the language, has now been ported to many other operating systems, and is even available for the Java platform, where Oberon source code compiles to source code in Java, or to bytecode for a Java virtual machine.
Oberon may be thought of as a Modula-2 with full object oriented class/object capabilities, though not exactly in C++ or Smalltalk style.

Corwin then returns to his former cell in the dungeons, and uses the trump that Dworkin drew on the wall to project himself to the mad sorceror's chambers.
Dworkin assumes that Corwin is Oberon, and reveals to him that he, Dworkin, is Oberon's father (and the mother was the Unicorn!), that he drew the Pattern using the Jewel of Judgement, which was given to him by the Unicorn after he fled from Chaos.

 Oberon programming language
Oberon is a programming language created in the late 1980s by Professor Niklaus Wirth (the father of Pascal and the Modula and Modula-2 programming languages) and his associates at ETHZ in Switzerland.
It is also, somewhat confusingly, the name of the Oberon operating system, written in Oberon, for the Ceres workstation (built around the National Semiconductor 32032 CPU) and for the Chameleon workstation.
Oberon, the language, has now been ported to many other operating systems, and is even available in a Java based version (ie, Oberon source code compiles to Java source or, alternatively, directly to Java bytecode).

The first four books of the series, Nine Princes in Amber, The Guns of Avalon, Sign of the Unicorn, and The Hand of Oberon have been very good novels in their own right, each building upon the other to develop the complex world that is Amber.
Similarly, the characters of the first four novels have been developed in such a succinct, efficient manner, that we learn of their natures without spending all that much time with any of them except the protagonist, Corwin.
Certainly this novel is among the best of the series, but for me, it was one tiny step down from book four of the series, The Hand of Oberon.

As brother Random is now Amber's Lord and Liege, Corwin is free to battle Chaos in his own manner, and he knows that the problems facing their world now have much to do with the past.
The Hand of Oberon shows us that the father who was supposedly vanished or dead, has been there all along, posing as Ganelon, Corwin's friend, in order to see who among his children would be best upon the throne.
