Standish, among the more well known of the Mayflower passengers -- perhaps due to Longfellow's fictitious poem "The Courtship of Miles Standish -- was by some accounts of short stature and of feisty temperament.
A salute was fired, and after that the "guest of the colony" went back with Standish and Squantum to the town, where, in a house especially fitted up for his reception with cushions and a green carpet, the governor met the chieftain and concluded that treaty of peace and friendship of which I have spoken.
Standish, for we read that the fifth wedding in the colony was that of Captain Miles Standish and "a lady named Barbara," said to have been a sister of his wife Rose.

On a positive note, the birds settling inside the canon is the most touching 2 seconds I've ever seen in a war-parody cartoon.
It may not be ground-breaking as WB cartoons go, but this consolidates their knack for character-design (Elmer Fudd), celebrity caricaturing (Edna Mae Oliver and Hugh Herbert), and satirical readings of old popular culture (in this case a poem called "The Courtship of Miles Standish") with lots of outrageous cartoon screwiness.
