Boston   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-11-01)
Boston was still further reduced by the dissolution of the monasteries by Henry VIII.
One of the causes of this decay of the haven is attributed to the diversion of the waters of the neighbouring fens from their ancient entrance into the Witham, above Boston, which had formerly discharged themselves in such large quantities, as to assist in scouring away the sediment brought up by every tide.
The title of the corporation was, ‘The Mayor and Burgesses of the borough of Boston;’ the officers being a mayor, recorder, deputy-recorder, twelve aldermen; eighteen common councilmen, coroner, town-clerk, judge of the court of admiralty, gaoler, and subordinate officers connected either with the borough or port.

Boston, Lincolnshire - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Boston is a town and small port in Lincolnshire, on the east coast of England.
Boston once again became a significant port in trade and fishing when, in 1884, the new dock with its associated wharves on the Haven were constructed.
The Haven Bridge, which now carries the two trunk roads over the river was opened in 1953 and the new road built in the early 1970s rather separated Skirbeck from Boston but the town largely avoided the development boom of the 1960s.

 Tocqueville's Boston
Boston, on the contrary, is built on uneven and mountainous ground, in such a way that to the observer at a certain distance, it presents some charming views.
Almost all the women speak French well, and all the men whom we have seen up to now have been in Europe; their manners are distinguished, their conversation turns on intellectual matters, one feels oneself delivered from those commercial habits and that financial spirit that render the society of New-York so vulgar.
In Boston the labours of the spirit are directed especially toward religious matters.

Salon Wanderlust | Eating around in Boston
In Boston I get the feeling that no one wants to be bothered with a newbie like me, yet somehow returning locals can effortlessly bounce around town making conversation, whether they're chewing the fat with the chi-chi Newbury Street poseurs or the down-to-earth jeans-and-flannel crowd of Jamaica Plain.
Make no mistake, if Boston is the Hub of anything, it is the Hub of students, whom, if you're coming to town between the months of September and June, you'll want to avoid.
The good folks of South Boston are probably some of the least excited people to meet someone new to their precious Boston; thus I am not very excited to meet them.

Boston Mommy » Blog Archive » The Haven - Town Online
A Boston area mom of a newly minted 1-year-old recently happened upon a revelation: The only place she can go where she will be left alone in peace by her very own hubby is the bathroom.
If she wants to read the newspaper or a piece of mail while sitting at the kitchen table, she said, she’ll inevitably be interrupted and expected to pick up her little boy when he cries or shouts, or if he starts sucking on the edge of the kitchen rug, or crawls/walks toward the electrical outlets.
But to read an entire article — or, dare she hope for a whole section of a newspaper — she said all she need do is to grab a paper or magazine and head for the bathroom when her hubby is home.

The Haven, Boston - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The Haven is the tidal river of the Port of Boston, Lincolnshire in England.
At the time of the Domesday Book (1086) The accounting for Boston was still done under the heading of the manors of Drayton but the wealth of Drayton's holdings, as recorded in the Domesday Book, in Skirbeck makes the presence of a working port at Boston, which then lay in Skirbeck, near certain.
In 1607, The Haven, between Boston and the sea (TF 361 402), was the scene of the first, abortive, attempt of the Scrooby Pilgrims, to leave England.
