Thus is the case for Hour Glass, a relatively unknown band, with pre-Allman Brothers Band members Gregg Allman and Duane Allman.
Hour Glass was short lived, lasting no more than a few years, but eventually they morphed into what would become one of the greatest American rock 'n' roll bands of all time, and you must give credit where it is due.
Hour Glass seem to excel much more at ballads than uptempo rockers, and it definately shows on this album.

We talked about the album's contemporary "out there" attributes of both the past and present, and how Herbie Hancock had once told Arnie in a elevator that it was his favorite record.
He went on to explain and cover all the angles of conceptual jazz that producers are yes, meant to fund, but not willingly imposed to hinder musically, this is rather explored by the marvel of the instrumental creation itself.
Mainly, the album was a brief, quick and courageously generous experiment of exploiting jazz efficiency (of which all the musicians then were currently responsible and buddied to).

EMANEM 4208: TONY BIANCO & PAUL DUNMALL
The title HOUR GLASS comes from a discussion Paul (Dunmall), Marcio and I had about the length of the recording we were going to do.
Dunmall signals the approach of the end of the hour by scaling down his torrents-of-notes approach, rounding off the performance by working over a recognisable motif in more measured fashion.
Whereas Hour Glass took several minutes to fully heat up, The Tepees Dive Deeply virtually dispenses with preliminaries, with only a few seconds of musical handshakes before Dunmall is tossing off fluent streams of notes over pell-mell drums and the bass's rapidfire scribblings.

"Hour Glass" was recorded "live off the floor" at Lakeside Studios in Clayton, Ontario, in July of 1995.
The album was produced by Jeffrey Lesser who has worked with Lou Reed, The Chieftains with Sting and Sinead O'Connor, The Chieftains with Los Lobos and Linda Ronstadt, and Barbra Streisand.
All but one of the songs on his current album, Hour Glass, were written while Griffin was incarcerated in the Spanish prison system for two and a half years in the early 1990's.

His Reckless album was one of the biggest sellers of 1985, underlined by the fact that no less than five singles were drawn from it (the missing one is “Summer Of ‘69” which stopped at #42).
On the album it needs its 14 minutes; as a slowly unfolding electronic oasis it’s certainly shares at least a postcode with Gil Evans’ “There Comes A Time” (even if much of it was recycled by Horn from an abandoned Steve Howe solo album).
The parent album, Misplaced Childhood, is a kind of ‘80s-prog equivalent of what I think was intended with the In My Room CD of the Scott Walker boxset; the reveries of a drowning man, desperately trying to make sense of all the signifiers which have been aimed at him throughout his life.

Nearly a quarter century after their landmark collaboration, the epic 4-1/2 hour opera that was 'Einstein on the Beach,' PHILIP GLASS and ROBERT WILSON are back to their old tricks with 'MONSTERS OF GRACE,' subtitled A Digital Opera in Three Dimensions.
Performing the new work this past Sunday at the Sacramento Community Center Theater, Glass and his ensemble catered to contemporary attention spans ('Monster' is a mere 73 minutes long!) with this pleasing cycle of 13 mesmerizing art songs featuring vocalists Marie Mascari, Alexandra Montano, Gregory Purnhagen and Peter Stewart.
Glass' seven-piece ensemble of keyboards and wind instruments did not disappoint in its hypnotic rendering of musical settings for lyrics adapted from the 13th century Persian poet Rumi.

And that would also be a bit unfair, because the Hour Glass were an above-average white soul group -- no Allman Brothers Band by a longshot, at least on their recordings, but an imposing outfit.
The resulting debut album didn't sound a lot like the group, although it was polished and often effective white Southern soul, sometimes crossing paths with the sounds later heard from Elvis's glorious Indian Summer on the Elvis In Memphis album, which was still two years away.
By the time of their second album, Power of Love, the band's lineup had changed, with Pete Carr, a friend of Sandlin and company from Pensacola, Florida, replacing Mabron McKinney on bass.

By the time of the second Hour Glass album, Power of Love, the band was playing in a mode closer to the blues and r&b styles that suited them, as "Down in Texas" shows.
The Hour Glass broke up but still owed Liberty money, so Duane and Gregg were legally prevented from recording on their own.
Allman's playing was so expressive that he ended up making the rest of the album with Picket and moved to Muscle Shoals, where he became a session star at the legendary studio.

Following up an album as immense as “Hourglass” is a tough nut to crack, and to come straight to the point, “Jericho” fails in various departments.
This is an album for both melodic rock and melodic metal fans and in opinion one of the better melodic metal albums of the last couple of months.
Well it is not all that strange I think, I think ‘Hour Glass’ was more a step outside the style that band leader Ralph Santolla was used to play as this new album ‘Jericho’ would be a style change.
