The House of the Dead (video game) - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
House of the Dead is a first-person, light gun rail shooter arcade game released in 1996 by Sega, where the player assumes the role of a government agent who must shoot his way through an army of recently resurrected zombies.
Taking place in 1998, House of the Dead follows two government agents, Rogan and G, who are sent on an assignment to investigate a series of disappearances at a mansion/laboratory thought to be inhabited by Curien, a mad scientist, one notorious for his dangerous, inhumane experiments.
Wildly popular in the United States, House of the Dead was followed by House of the Dead 2 in 1998, the beat 'em up spin-off Zombie Revenge, and House of the Dead III in 2002.

The House of the Dead Movie Review at Hollywood Video
House of the Dead is like a train wreck—it's a total disaster.
To be fair, a good zombie-film does not need a big storyline, and the fact that House of the Dead is based on Sega's videogame of the same name shouldn't be a turn-off (Tomb Raider and Resident Evil were both mediocre videogame adaptations).
But in House of the Dead, the acting is more frightening than the undead themselves and the gore is lacking, simple as that.

The House of the Dead is a novel published in 1862 by Russian author Fyodor Dostoevsky.
1927-1928 Leos Janacek made an operatic version of this loosely knit novel (being rather an enumeration of seemingly unrelated facts and events connected to life in a Siberian prison, organised by "theme" rather than as a continuous story), with the title From the House of the Dead.

House of the Dead is more a traditional shooting game, where the plot is secondary to the number of dead things the player can kill.
These little "flourishes" are amateurish and distracting, and by themselves manage to sink House of the Dead further than it otherwise would have.

The House of the Dead - Fyodor Dostoyevsky - Penguin Group (USA)
The four years he spent there, startlingly re-created in The House of the Dead, were the most agonizing of his life.
In this fictionalized account he recounts his soul-destroying incarceration through the cool, detached tones of his narrator, Aleksandr Petrovich Goryanchikov: the daily battle for survival, the wooden plank beds, the cabbage soup swimming with cockroaches, his strange ‘family’ of boastful, ugly, cruel convicts.
Yet The House of the Dead is far more than a work of documentary realism: it is also a powerful novel of redemption, describing one man’s spiritual and moral death and the miracle of his gradual reawakening.

Over the last few months leading up the release of “The House of the Dead,” I’ve been reading reviews, monitoring gossip, and laughing over interviews that detailed just how misguided and bizarrely conceived this latest video game adaptation was.
“The House of the Dead” is as bad as earlier reported, with even the distributor, Artisan Entertainment, removing their name from any mention in the credits.
“Dead” is so artistically and creatively bankrupt that it boggles the mind just how a miserable little picture like this could sneak into theaters and enjoy a theatrical run.

The House of the Dead is a somewhat autobiographical account of Dostoevsky's time in a Siberian labor camp.
While the book is narrated from the point of view of a 3rd party, incarcerated for the murder of his wife, it is widely accepted that the stories and characters are based on events and people that Dostoevsky encountered while in Siberia.
