 The Hurricane - Friedsam
Rubin "Hurricane" Carter's false imprisonment and later release and exoneration after almost twenty years is the least compelling of the two intertwining stories in The Hurricane, starring Denzel Washington.
The Hurricane tells the story of champion welter-weight boxer who served 20 years in prison after being wrongly convicted by an all white jury of a triple murder.
Rubin "Hurricane" Carter: The Other Side of the Story - not intended to be a balanced presentation, but rather, a counterweight to the Hollywood Justice System.

The city is protected from flooding by a system of levees, but a direct hit from a large hurricane would breach these protective barriers, flooding the city with water poisoned by industrial chemicals from the thousands of factories that border the lake.
Drinking one is something of a baptism by fire for visitors, who can often be seen staggering along Bourbon Street for hours afterward, throwing money at local hustlers or staring in amazement at children tap dancing with bottlecaps nailed to the bottoms of their shoes.
Even so, there is not much about the Hurricane to distinguish it from any of the hundreds of similar fruity cocktails out there, even if the bar proudly sells a mix so you can make their signature drink at home.

The film starts off with Rubin "Hurricane" Carter in his youth, where he is unfairly sent away to a correctional institution for committing an act of self-defense.
One thing I always hate is when a song is played during the trailer, but then the filmmakers leave it out of the actual movie or only play it at the end.
Bob Dylan's song The Hurricane, which is actually about Rubin Carter, was used on a few occasions throughout the film and was quite effective.

 Hurricanes
Though hurricanes can cause problems away from the coastline, usually the most serious damage happens along bodies of water, such as oceans or rivers.
Hurricanes are always a concern, especially for people who live near a coast, but most hurricanes are not as dangerous as these three.
But with Hurricane Katrina, the damage was so bad that a lot of people had to go to new towns.

Hurricane (song) - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
This song was one of Dylan's few protest songs of the 1970's and it was one of his most successful singles of the decade, reaching #31 on the Billboard chart.
Dylan was forced to rerecord the song, with altered lyrics, after concerns were raised by Columbia's lawyers that references that Alfred Bello and Arthur Dexter Bradley "robbed the bodies" could result in a lawsuit.
The song was published on the album Desire in January 1976, making the Carter case known to a broad public.

 The Hurricane
Based on a true story, The Hurricane is set in 1967 and charts the life of Rubin Carter (Washington), a boxer from New Jersey on the brink of breaking into the big time, who is wrongly accused of murder and imprisoned for a crime he did not commit.
Over the course of several decades, Hurricane Carter embarks upon a quest to clear his name and fight the judicial system that failed him, and draws strength from the relationship he develops with a young boy named Lazarus, who idolises the imprisoned pugilist.
The Hurricane does bear several stylistic similarities to both these scores, but it is the seamless combination of the two styles that makes this score such a success.

 The Hurricane Lamps
The Lamps get more confident with each album they make, and on Sing Me a Song, they let their punk edge drop to reveal their pop heart more than ever, and the result is an adeptness at catching melodic lightning in a bottle and turning a phrase on a dime.
Sing Me a Song is a fine entry point into The Hurricane Lamps' catalog, though I have a hard time choosing between it and 2001's slightly rougher Tilting at Windmills when deciding which to pop in.
The Hurricane Lamps succeed in their punk-to-pop endeavor because they approach the writing and execution of their songs with the same kind of freshness and naivete that distinguished the work of their forefathers.

Reel Movie Guys - The Hurricane Review
The story of Rubin "Hurricane" Carter, a boxer wrongly convicted of three murders, who eventually wins his freedom after an exhausting fight to prove his innocence.
The pain of every setback he suffers, and the exultation when the fighter is finally released at the film's end, make for an exhilarating experience.
While Carter's journey - immortalized in Bob Dylan's classic song, "The Hurricane," and recanted time and again - is compelling in its own right, the film dilutes it with many creative liberties.

Growing up as the child of dirty hippies, I was introduced to the plight of Ruben “Hurricane” Carter at an early age.
Via the Bob Dylan song, I learned that Carter was the number one contender for the middleweight boxing title until he was accused, falsely tried and convicted of a grisly triple murder by an all-white jury.
The song also detailed the cover-ups, witness tampering and corruption ranging from the local police to the judge that handed Carter his life sentence.

One scene fairly on in the piece is an effective interpretation of a man trapped with his only his mind and its thoughts, a chilling concept that reveals the Hurricane’s fear of no one but himself.
In fact, Denzel Washington is very much the crux of ‘The Hurricane.’ None of the other characters even come close to the level of authenticity that the protagonist generates, especially not the three optimistic Canadian characters who emphatically fight to free Carter.

Along the way, many took up the cause to urge his release, including Bob Dylan, whose spirited song "Hurricane" is used in the movie.
Jewison ("In the Heat of the Night," "A Soldier's Story") has chosen to focus "Hurricane" mainly on the relationship between the imprisoned Carter and Lesra Martin (Vicellous Reon Shannon), an alienated American teenager who read the boxer's book, "The 16th Round," and inspired a group of Canadians to work for his release.
The film's early boxing scenes, shot in glorious fl and white, are precise, inspired re-creations, with a crowd of shouting extras whose performances are as mesmerizing and convincing as the powerful pugilism in the ring.

Lee's song follows another song that's become widely circulated on the Internet: "George Bush Doesn't Care About Black People." The song is performed by the Houston-based rap duo The Legendary K.O. (Damien Randle and Micah Nickerson) and partly inspired by rapper Kanye West's now-famous blast of the president during a nationally televised Katrina telethon.
While Randle said the pair was surprised by the song's popularity — they only sent it off to a few friends before bloggers helped circulate it — he said the song has been so popular because it has helped express the feelings many in the country have.
Lee says his song is not a slam against Bush, although he does feel race played a factor in the delay of aid.

`The Hurricane': Fighting the Demons Within
ne way to look at "The Hurricane," Norman Jewison's stirring but schmaltzy film biography of Hurricane Carter, the New Jersey boxer who spent nearly 20 years in prison for a triple murder he didn't commit, is to see it as the cinematic equivalent of an inspirational pop song.
If his Hurricane is an inspiring portrait of nobility, it is because the actor never conceals the demons of fury and despair gnawing beneath his character's forcefully articulate surface.
In telling Carter's life story and the events surrounding the 1966 murders for which he was framed, "The Hurricane" covers main events of Carter's life in brisk, vivid vignettes.
