The Island (2005 film) - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The Island is a 2005 science fiction film directed by Michael Bay and starring Ewan McGregor and Scarlett Johansson.
In addition, the film's closing scenes of the clones escaping the institute and looking upon the outside world for the first time is shot in a manner highly reminiscent of the closing scenes of the afforementioned film.
Even if this were not the case, the island's ecosystem would soon collapse without input from the ocean around it (this could be explained by the fact that the clones are never educated beyond the level of a child and are conditioned to believe in the island as soon as they are created).

The film was released on December 14, 2005, and received positive reviews, though not as positive as the reviews given to the Lord of the Rings trilogy that the director Peter Jackson had previously worked on.
This would indicate that the island natives were a cult religion that once thrived on the mainland of Asia, and all trace of the cult was wiped out, except for the few on the island.
The most common criticisms of the film were due to excessive length, over-use of slow motion, and several moments where the audience was aware of CGI effects.

The film makes effective use of a boldly implausible premise: Su-jin (Son) is stricken with Alzheimer's at the age of 28, a fatal blow to her marriage to the brooding Chul-soo (Jung Woo-sung).
