The Jaunt (Stephen King) - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
It belongs primarily to the genre of science fiction rather than King's customary horror, but is quite characteristic of King in probing deeply the minds of its characters when they are placed in incredible circumstances.
The story takes place in the near-future where the technology for teleportation, referred to as "Jaunting", is commonplace, allowing for instantaneous transportation across enormous distances, even to other planets in the solar system.
As a family prepares to be "Jaunted" to Mars, the father entertains his two children by recounting the tale of the Jaunt's curious discovery and history.

Stephen King Books - The CHUD.COM Message Boards
The Talisman is more fun as a cool fantasy read but Black House creeped me the fuck out, it is a little slow to start up, doesn't have the epic adventure quality to it, but there is just an underlying feeling of dread that starts to get to you.
And that irks me. It's really one of King's Dark Tower intermediary books, and while the Dark Tower is my favorite creation of King's, it's inclusion in the story of Jack Sawyer feels more like a shoehorn job than a good fit.
The world that King and Straub created for The Talisman is stirring, epic and more than a little different than the one King created (and still creates) for The Dark Tower.
