Jim Rome - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Rome is married to his wife Janet since July 19, 1997, and they have two sons, Jake (born 2001) and Logan (born 2005).
Rome refers to his loyal fan base as "the Clones." The nickname stems from the idea that their devotion to Rome, tendency to support Rome's "takes," and their imitative use of "smack" and jargon from Rome's shows makes them different from regular sports-radio listeners but all the same as each other.
Rome is also known for referring to various cities by sometimes derogatory nicknames, such as "Bugaha"/Omaha, "Crapchester"/Rochester, "Crackmore"/Baltimore, "H-Town"/ Houston, and "Suckramento"/Sacramento, though he has eased off the latter since the Kings became regular NBA contenders.

The Jim Rome Show - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Rome's motto for these teams is "when the going gets tough, quit," and when they drop a close game, he will praise them extensively for their ability to "sack up and roll over" when their "perfect season" was on the line.
Rome also has little use for collegiate and amateur wrestling, citing that the participants wear water polo helmets and unitards (singlets), and that they practice their "special holds" on each other on dirty, unsanitary wrestling mats.
In this instance, Rome notifies the Clones that the prospective guest is "on the clock," a reference to a phrase often uttered during the NFL Draft.

Rome's "tell it like it is" approach has earned him the title of "the King of Smack." Famous sports figures like Shaquille O'Neal, Mike Piazza, Michael Jordan, Wayne Gretzky, Troy Aikman, Evander Holyfield, Don King, Oscar De La Hoya and sportscasters Bob Costas and Al Michaels all have appeared on his show.
Rome listens intently and either "runs" the caller with the buzzer, meaning disconnects the call or he allows them to finish their take and says," rack 'em", meaning save the call as an entry into the huge call of the day contest.
Rome states very clearly that the rules of the show are simple: "Have a take and do not suck or you will get run." These words can be heard echoing daily from 9 a.m.

Rome can be just as juvenile as the next talk show host, but he ``clearly positions himself as anti-racist and anti-homophobic,'' Nylund finds.

Given Rome's prominence on the sports talk scene and the makeup of his audience, his generally progressive views on the gay issue should be seen as positive baby steps and be encouraged.

Then, if you're super lucky and kiss enough ass, JR lets you read (again, this makes the assumption that the "clones" are literate, not a good one, but...) your prepared "take" over the air as if you're coming up with it on the spot like a speaker with real ability, which you are NOT.
Usually, this show is pretty good, and shamelessly funny, since the "clones" have clearly spent more time writing down their "takes" than doing their job (although it is probably safe to assume that most of them are unemployed) or being parents or whatever.
