Anthony Joseph "Joe" Perry (Born September 10, 1950 in Lawrence, Massachusetts), is the lead guitarist and a contributing songwriter for the longstanding rock and roll band Aerosmith.
Perry left Aerosmith in 1979, after a conflict with Tyler; the group was still recording their sixth album, Night in the Ruts, and Perry would appear on six of its nine tracks.
Perry and Tyler collaborated with Run-DMC in a remake of their 1975 hit "Walk This Way", which brought their band renewed mainstream attention.

Joe Perry (Born September 10, 1950 in Lawrence, Massachusetts), is the lead guitarist and a contributing songwriter for the longstanding rock and roll band Aerosmith.
Joe Perry split from Aerosmith under less than favorable circumstances in 1979, directly assembling a solo band, The Joe Perry Project (with Ralph Mormon- vocals, David Hull- bass, and Ronnie Stewart- drums), which soon released their first album, 1980's Let the Music Do the Talking.
While subsequent Perry Project albums didn't contain many Perry lead vocal spots, the singing on the debut is split 50/50 between Perry and Mormon.

First of all, that was an angry Joe Perry who recorded Let The Music Do The Talking in 1979 and I've Got The Rock'n'Rolls Again in 1980, still pissed about the chain of events that led to end of his first go-round with Aerosmith.
Perry is a more than competent backing vocalist, and his voice has proven the perfect blending sound for Steven Tyler, but as a lead vocalist he just doesn't cut it.
Joe Perry still sculpts out some of the coolest grooves in rock, after all these years.

Joe Perry is known throughout the world for his lead guitar role with Aerosmith.
He is less known, however, for his solo career, since - with the exception of three albums released when he left Aerosmith in the early 80's to form The Joe Perry Project, he never actually had a pure solo album.
It is a shame Perry didn't recruit a proper vocalist to make this reasonable album come to life.

The Joe Perry project was initially merely a side project to Perry's full-time involvement with Aerosmith, but as Perry's dissatisfaction with Aerosmith grew, the more he toyed with the idea of completely breaking away from the group and launching a solo career.
Perry himself was struggling with alcoholism and drug addiction, which was taking its toll on his health, his career and his personal life.
And though the Joe Perry Project met its demise in early 1984, one of the greatest comebacks in rock and roll history was simultaneously set into motion.

Australia's Raven Records has released another important retrospective -- a focus on guitarist Joe Perry's three solo albums and the three frontmen who put their voices on those discs.
Given Aerosmith's success, it is odd that Sony hasn't released a similar compilation -- or that this one isn't being imported in droves, since Perry is a legend, and his work while estranged from the hard rock phenomenon that is Aerosmith deserves attention, no matter how dark the period was for the guitarist personally.
The three phases of the Joe Perry Project -- blues singer Mormon, songwriter/vocalist Farren, and stage performer Bell -- is a vitally important chapter in American rock & roll, which Raven and McFarlane have lovingly packaged and preserved.

The Joe Perry Project was a short-lived band during the early '80s led by Aerosmith's founding guitarist (and obtained the dubious feat of featuring a different singer for each of their three albums).
After Perry grew disenchanted with the indulgent, drug-consuming, time-wasting monster that Aerosmith had become (despite the fact that they were still one of the biggest rock outfits in the U.S.), Perry jumped ship and rang up a trio of acquaintances from the Boston area: singer Ralph Mormon, bassist David Hull, and drummer Ronnie Stewart.
By the Project's sophomore release, 1981's I've Got the Rock 'n' Rolls Again, Mormon was replaced with Charlie Farren, which proved to not be up to par with the quartet's debut.

Perry's seemingly grounded family actually seems a little out-of-place within an opulent setting one would normally associate with politicians and business magnates, but it's not like he hasn't earned his stay in the lap of luxury.
In fact, this past year is the first time in four years he has had a break from the recording and touring machine that is Aerosmith, and he has embraced that freedom by making his first solo album in over twenty years.
And while Perry may be no Steven Tyler in the vocal department, he has a pleasant enough singing voice that meshes comfortably with his playing.
