The Kentucky Fried Movie was ZAZ’s first foray into the world of inspired scripted lunacy and whilst never reaching the delights of either Airplane or Police Squad, it’s an interesting and often hilarious watch that highlights the burgeoning talents and deft-handling of comedy by the gag writer’s on show.
The Kentucky Fried Movie is actually a rather strange film, probably because it's not really a film in the general sense at all.
It certainly takes a while to settle into the movie because of the lack of a linear plot and differing characters/actors for each section, but taken as it is The Kentucky Fried Movie is, at times, a rather hilarious film.

I entertained the notion that perhaps TKFM was made prior to 1975 and was circulated via some sort of cheap copies but didn't formally come out until 1977, which would leave open the possibility that the forces behind SNL saw the early version of the movie and stole from it.
The Kentucky Fried Movie appears in both its original theatrical aspect ratio of approximately 1.85:1 and in a fullscreen edition on this single-sided, double-layered DVD; the letterboxed image has been enhanced for 16X9 televisions.

Movies like Airplane and Naked Gun kept the lulls at a minimum and the jokes coming like a shotgun, plus they have a budget.
KFM on the otherhand has far too many lulls between the sight gags, slapstick and jokes to keep it afloat.
KFM will always be legendary for its launching a new style of raunchy sightgag movies with tons of scatological and sexual double entendres but it was only a prototype of a genre-in-progress and as such should be seen in its true context.
