Topic: The Killing Time

  Treasurer Dave Lindorff
Joseph McGill, the D.A. who prosecuted the case and won the death penalty, had at the trial had assured the court that a crucial witness, a police officer sought by the defense, was away on vacation.
For the first time, in an interview with Lindorff, he now concedes that he may have previously instructed that police witness to stay at home while on vacation to be available to testify, a fact kept from the court.
Dave Lindorff1s Killing Time stands alone as a full and fair-minded analysis of the case brought against Mumia Abu-Jamal.

These are the central questions raised by KILLING TIME, a provocative documentary that explores the nature of time.
In it, Barbour presents the concept of time as a human construct, not as a separately existing dimension.
Fascinating and thought- provoking, KILLING TIME is an elucidation of Barbour's controversial theories on time, and a radical rethinking of our accepted notion of the world in which we live.

The SF Site Featured Review: Killing Time / Sensing Others
I might describe either title as a painless way to pass the time, certainly not boring or poorly written from a technical or logical standpoint, but both left me fairly indifferent -- and in some senses "indifferent" is one of the worst things I can say about a novel.
In Killing Time the means and motive of Anna's disappearance were fairly transparent to me half-way through the book, and while some tension was developed surrounding the disposal of the body, overall the novel could certainly not be termed suspenseful.
Glancing at some of the reviews on the back of Killing Time I see words like "smooth elegance of film noir" and "dark tale." Well that explains some things; it's supposed to be a modern noir novel...

It is argued that Mach's principle leads to the conclusion that time, as we normally treat it in our common experience and physical theory, is not a part of fundamental reality; the past and future have a real, objective existence, as is already suggested by both special and general relativity theory.
If we accept in broad terms the relativity and gravitational induction of inertia, this becomes the problem of the inertial properties and behavior of objects as they are gravitationally decoupled from the rest of the matter in the cosmos.
We assume that special relativity theory (SRT) is valid, that four-forces are just the derivative with respect to proper time of four-momenta, and that inertial reaction forces experienced by accelerating objects are produced by their interaction with an external field.

 Science Fiction Book Reviews
Broad and old-fashioned, nearly comic-bookish at times, the voice leads the reader into assuming at first that a farce, burlesque or parody is being presented.
Despite these two drawbacks--a stuffy, stiff protagonist (the love scenes between Wolfe and Larissa feature dialogue such as "You unimaginable swine!" and "No need to go to town with it") and a plot and themes straight out of the revolutions of 1848--Carr manages to move the action along crisply, with many punchy short chapters.
His extrapolations and speculations are clever enough, but all seem to hinge on whatever headlines were weekly prominent in Time magazine (where installments of this book first appeared), from female genital mutilation to "water wars." Finally, the climactic deus ex machina involving time-travel is full of more logical holes than even Michael Crichton's Timeline.

If "The Killing Time" is ranked well below average, this is mainly due to its implausibility and inconsistency.
I could enumerate lots of reasons why the scenario is totally incredulous, but simply describing how the film starts, will suffice: A stranger (Sutherland) kills a man who was on his way to a job as a deputy sheriff in a small California coastal town.
The sequel of events does not get any more plausible: We watch the existing deputy sheriff Sam Wayborn (Bridges), as he plans along with his girlfriend Laura Winslow (Kath), the murder of her husband Jake (Rogers), with the intent of putting the blame on his new colleague.
