 Amazon.com: Video: The King and I (1956)
Based on Margaret Landon's classic "Anna and the King of Siam," this filmed adaptation of the Broadway show is exquisite, with a fabulous cast and extraordinary talent behind the camera as well, with the direction of Walter Lang, choreography by Jerome Robbins, and cinematography by Leon Shamroy.
Also highly recommended is the dramatic 1946 film, "Anna and the King of Siam" with Irene Dunne and Rex Harrison.
My favorite moment in the film is when Brynner first puts his arm around Kerr's waist, in the "Shall We Dance?" number, and their chemistry together sizzles more than many of the explicit love scenes we see on the screen today.

First, Thai censors wouldn't let 20th Century Fox film Anna and the King in the country, saying its portrayal of Thailand's beloved King Mongkut was demeaning.
The 1956 Oscar winner, The King and I, which starred Yul Brynner and Deborah Kerr, has never been screened in the country.

 Film History of the 1950s
Jailhouse Rock (1957) is generally acknowledged as his most famous and popular film, but he also appeared in Loving You (1957) (noted for his first screen kiss) and in director Michael Curtiz' King Creole (1958) as a New Orleans teen rebel (acclaimed as one of his best acting roles) before the decade ended.
They preferred Rock Around the Clock (1956) that featured disc jockey Alan Freed and the group Bill Haley and His Comets (singing the title song) and many others (such as the Platters and Freddy Bell and The Bell Boys) - it was the first film entirely dedicated to rock 'n' roll.
By the 70s, his film roles had deteriorated, and although he returned to stage performances and revived his singing career, he was physically on the decline until his death in August, 1977 of heart disease and drug abuse.

In 1943, her story was adapted by Margaret Landon into a novel (Anna and the King of Siam).
Another plot loophole that seems more obvious here than in previous editions (probably because the polygamy issue is more obvious in this version), is why, if the King is so interested in Anna, he didn't just bring her in as a concubine or wife #24 (this is an issue the script doesn't really answer either).

Titled "Gojira" when it debuted in Japan in 1954, this "Godzilla" is definitely not the Hollywood hack job that came out in 1956 titled "Godzilla, King of the Monsters!," which preserved only about 60 minutes of Ishiro Honda's masterpiece.
The "Godzilla" that opens today is a 50th-anniversary Rialto Pictures rerelease of the monster's very first appearance on film, and it's a definitive, low-tech stomping of every sci-fi clone that has sprung up in the original's wake.
In a tale that lives in sci-fi infamy, "King of the Monsters!" -- starring an especially dour Raymond Burr -- was the product of an American distributor and director, Terry O. Morse, who combined to turn Honda's rich atomic allegory into a sanitized generic triumph of man over beast.
