A number of drawings and oil sketch finalley led in 1892 to Munch's oil painting "The Kiss." It is still, in some respects, a genre scene, executed in soft and relaxed brushwork.
Klimt's 1895 painting "Love" conveys a sense of valediction, and in 1890 Munch created a drawing which he himself entitled "Adjo (Farewell).
Even in such a work, there are elements that foreshadow Munch's progress from stylism to expressionism, in which the human individual becomes the central theme of creative work.
