Hammer Film Reviews by Jason Henderson
Kiss of the Vampire is distilled Hammer, and almost benefits from the lack of Hammer's two chief stars Cushing and Lee: a heretical thought to some, perhaps, but true, I feel.
With Kiss of the Vampire one sees that Van Helsing and Dracula were borne of this strange Hammerscape, and not vice-versa.
Here, vampirism is a tempting fruit that will distance the convert from her home and God -- not due to the hypnotic attack of a powerful vampire lord like Dracul -- but through the cool, sensual embrace of a convincing vampire proselytizer.

Classic-Horror Review of Kiss of the Vampire (1963)
A television version, retitled Kiss of Evil, trims most of the blood, and inserts scenes of a local family and the effect the vampires have on them.
But the main reason you watch a film like Kiss of the Vampire at this date isn't to be exposed to an unprecedented plot -- it's to relish in that Hammer style, which at its best, as it is for most of this film, is eerily atmospheric even during the most mundane of activities.
Kiss of the Vampire has a relatively tight script, one of the many penned by son-of-Hammer honcho Anthony Hinds, a typically effective score by James Bernard, quality performances, and both bathes in tradition and extends it.

They also are not all that powerful, but the head vampire can summon one of his brood from afar, and no mention is ever made of immortality.
Gerald is quickly captured and is about to be made one of Dr. Ravna's vampire brood by his daughter Tania, when he manages to get out his bonds and make the sign of the cross in blood on his chest.
I liked everything in the movie until scene where where the vampires are sent into turmoil by Gerald making a sloppy sign of the cross on his chest in blood.

The Kiss of the Vampire (1962)
The Kiss of the Vampire is not entirely original, but it is stunningly well-made.
The suggested similarities between the film's ending and that of Hitchcock's The Birds are coincidental: While they were both released in 1964, in fact The Kiss of the Vampire was filmed in 1962, before The Birds was conceived.
Sharp's main thematic emphasis is on the idea of vampirism as a disease, with strongly moral overtones.

 THE KISS OF THE VAMPIRE
, vampirism is related to sexual perversion, with the Ravna clan, headed by the urbanely sinister Dr. Ravna (Noel Willman), reeking with implications of incestuous relations.
He is literally seduced into abandoning his wife — Ravna's attractive daughter plies him with champagne at an elegant masquerade ball, while she is lured into the evil doctor's clutches — and spends much of the film in hysterics, but proves himself an able assistant to the newly energized Zimmer.
the U.S. TV version, retitled Kiss Of Evil, was extensively re-edited (all the gory/sexy highlights were axed and some new footage shot by a different crew with different actors were shoehorned to create a pointless subplot) and robbed the film of much of its impact.

Either he can seek God through the church and pray for absolution or he can persuade himself that his filthy perversion is some kind of new and wonderful experience to be shared by the favoured few.
Still this is easily the most beautiful vampire film ever made--it should be seen just for the sets, costumes and color.
Avoid (at all costs) the edited TV print which is retitled "Kiss of Evil".

theyrecoming - horror movie review - The Kiss of the Vampire (1963)
The traditional "kiss" of the vampire is, of course, his or her bite.
The problem is that "kiss" implies certain things - passion, romance, tenderness, sexuality - many of which are traditionally associated with vampires, but none of which are evident in this film or in its vampire's bites.
I'll just revoke the word "kiss" and call it "The of the Vampire." That conveys just the right mixture of generic, confusing, and boring to be appropriate to this movie.

The Kiss of the Vampire - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The Kiss of the Vampire is a 1963 British Hammer Horror film directed by Don Sharp and starring Clifford Evans, Edward de Souza, Jennifer Daniel, Noel Willman, Barry Warren and Jacquie Wallis.
This film played once again with the rules of cinematic vampire lore by allowing the vampiric Ravna family to move about during the daylight hours, albeit in a limited fashion.
The abbreviated running time was made up for by the addition of scenes of a family (middle-aged husband and wife; teenage daughter) who argue about the influence of the vampiric Ravna clan, but never interact with anybody else in the movie.

A single glimpse at the title tells you it's about vampires, and if it played out all the usual vampire scenarios and trappings I wouldn't have a great deal of use for the movie.
However, that is not the case; the vampires here have a social structure of sorts which makes their modus operandi a very different thing than you usually find in movies of this ilk, and the movie gets a great deal of mileage out of carefully drawing you into their methods.
