If you recall, The Kovenant became the band with the special K after the electronic outfit Covenant protested the usage of their name.

Kovenant has fully dived into the goth-o-sized industrial-metal world and apparently it's quite the shallow pool.

Many different aspects of musical styles were played around with on this CD including a slow, dark and gloomy number called "Stillborn Universe" along with a number of upbeat keyboard filled numbers that originally had me writhing in my chair.
THE KOVENANT has continued to change their career path with this latest release following in the footsteps of bands like KATATONIA who also completely revamped their style and surprised their fans with an all-new outlook.

The Kovenant, the band known formerly as Covenant, has come a long way since their early days.
Quiet for the next couple of years, The Kovenant decided on an interesting move, opting to add modern effects (in keeping with their current direction) to their debut album, essentially releasing an updated, enhanced version of the album.
Finally, 2003 saw the release of their proper followup to Animatronic, in the form of S.E.T.I. Their progression away from fl metal is now complete, as the band is now firmly in the techno/electronic metal arena, somewhat like a cross between the recent albums of Atrocity and Theatre Of Tragedy.

Despite lyrics about everything staying the same, The Kovenant, who started life as Covenant, has been more about change than anything else states Psycoma, "Evolution, progression, it has to be pushed through no matter what, there will be no reconsideration, no looking into the past and taking that into account.
It portrays to the people who we are, what we are doing and our personalities within the band." Psycoma says "The Kovenant refuses to remain in the past for sentimental reasons." Hence, the music is very electronic and synthetic compared with much of Norwegian metal, giving the band a more futuristic feel.
The mechanical/organic melding applies to the Kovenant's music as well, "We try and be in front with technology.

The Kovenant have taken a lot of flak for supposedly abandoning their wonderful style of cosmic metal that they fashioned for "Nexus Polaris" for the more modern rhythmic stomp of "Animatronic." However, the reality is The Kovenant haven't strayed from their "Nexus Polaris" sound too much.
Much like Queen did in the '70s, The Kovenant played over a backing track; the bass, electronica elements, and female choir vocals were played out over a tape while the rest of the band played their instruments.

Nagash is better known for forming and leading The Kovenant (where he now goes by the name Lex Icon), but Troll predates that band by a number of years, formed back in 1992 originally as a trio.
The other two guys left and Nagash put out two releases done completely by himself, then put Troll on hold while he formed Covenant (later The Kovenant) as well as serving time in Dimmu Borgir for a time.
The early work, as seen on 1996's Drep De Kristne, shows Nagash at his flest, as this album is clearly the truest fl metal album he's ever done, an old-school symphonic fl metal fest in the tradition of, say, early Emperor.

Although the changes may be subtler this time around, The Kovenant have once again undergone a metamorphosis for the better.
However, unlike the groundbreaking Animatronic album, S.E.T.I. features fewer distinct musical changes with the exception of the vocals, which are more akin to the melodic Sisters Of Mercy style crooning than the former Dimmu Borgir -esque fl metal rasping.
