The Kovenant (band) - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Originally the band was called Covenant, but due to a dispute with the Swedish electro band with the same name (see Covenant (band)), it was later changed to The Kovenant.
The Kovenant (at the time known as Covenant) was formed in 1993 by two fl metal artists known as Nagash and Blackheart; they both met when Blackheart decided to help Nagash with his one-man band, Troll.
The Kovenant had members that were gaining fame in the Black Metal scene as well as mainstream bands that are generally related to The Kovenant's new style of music.

Animatronic - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
S.E.T.I. Animatronic is the third album from Norwegian fl metal band, The Kovenant, and was released in 1999 through Nuclear Blast.
Sarah was too much trouble for the band and Nagash refused to compromise with her any longer and fired her.
Not deciding to change their name that drastically, the band switched it from 'Covenant' to 'The Kovenant'.

Kovenant - Satan Stole My Teddybear
Having ditched practically half the band, changed stage names and band moniker and assumed a really dorky image for the cover (placing them in contention with Dødheimsgard for silliest album cover photo), The Kovenant is primed and ready to pursue a somewhat divergent path than the outfit that released Nexus Polaris last year.
Instead, the band re-recorded quite a few parts, provided new artwork and have put the K over the C. In fact, the band was so kind as to provide a little bedtime story about how this reissue came about in the liner notes.
In other words, the Kovenant modernized it to sound like it might have been the first album of their industrio-gotho incarnation rather than the Grade B fl metal it was at the time.

With "Nexus Polaris," released the following year, the band had already evolved past their primal roots and entered into the realm of technical space metal, for lack of a better term.
The subject matter itself is enough to alienate the band from the majority of the mainstream.
But this is a great album, a daring creation by a band that has been evolving in this direction ever since their first album was released, and requires more than a few plays to appreciate.

As their label failed to give the band the support it needed on a promotional purpose, they turn to Nuclear Blast, which re-released "Enthrone Darkness Triumphant"… on this re-release, Nuclear Blast did not print the lyrics of the song "Tormentor of Christian Souls", to decline all responsibility on the content of the song.
The band then started touring, Stian Aarstad has been fired from the band during the tour because he failed to assume his work in all shows.
In february 2004, the band announced the "removal" of Nicholas Barker (Old Man's Child, Lock Up, Brujeria, Cradle Of Filth) of the band's line-up, and announced few weeks later that Reno Kiilerich (Vile) would handle the drums for the next concerts...

This is not the case with the Kovenant.

Of all the bands that I had discovered for myself in the past year and a half Amorphis is certainly the band that has impressed me the most.
The Kovenant have taken a lot of flak for supposedly abandoning their wonderful style of cosmic metal that they fashioned for "Nexus Polaris" for the more modern rhythmic stomp of "Animatronic." However, the reality is The Kovenant haven't strayed from their "Nexus Polaris" sound too much.
The band is amazingly physical on stage with their heads thrashing about, the band members bobbing in unison to the aggressive rhythms, and the occasional use of props to providing a medium to interact with the fans.

Rounding out the band's sound is the contrast of Lex Icon's electronically mistreated vocals with the lush and glassy sheen provided by the female vocals.

The band can be menacing in its attack, but when it slows down to deliver Classical passages with big a male chorus chanting harmonies things get out of hand, in a bad way.
The band must have had some kind of a rationalization for doing this, but in essence this is the progression of the ‘cover version syndrome.’ For the last while every band on the metal scene has been focused on recording and promoting other people’s songs.
Bands are now re-recording their own albums and, in essence, becoming their own cover bands.

About five years ago the band known as The Kovenant (previously known as just Covenant) made the decision to venture outside of their fl metal confines into new realms.
To the fans of the band when they were called Covenant that never got the sound that came with the new change, you'll absolutely despise the new disc.
But for industrial metal band, The Kovenant still manage to create songs that are better than their peers.

It was wierd playing with bands like Gardenian, Hypocrisy and Brimstone because the audience consisted mainly of death metal fans, typical headbangin Germans but we were also surprised at the difference in audience response at different venues.
bands were all pretty much death metal orientated and we have disco and trip hop parts which is just a totally different thing and I think that stood against us at some venues.
I never really thought they would vote to the extent of bands like us because they are a very conservative country and a lot of people fear what we represent or whatever.

Many different aspects of musical styles were played around with on this CD including a slow, dark and gloomy number called "Stillborn Universe" along with a number of upbeat keyboard filled numbers that originally had me writhing in my chair.

The Kovenent have long been away from their Black Metal roots and though now and then a faster riff or more complex drumming lines occur thats about as close as it gets.
While Kovenant did not impress me with any of their other albums, I will fight to the death their importance in the progression of extreme metal because Nexus Polaris represents a sound which, upon its release, had never been heard before.
The bands sound is so cohesive on this album that every song sounds like a new masterpiece, never treading over the same path all the while pushing a new threshold in every aspect.

First the band was called "Father's Bastard", but it sounds to brutal for a gothic metal band, thus the band made a change to "Elmeod" in Arabian is "Al-mauth" (translation: "Death") based on the philosophy what death is all about for mortal being.
With two guitarists and keyboards on the band, the atmosphere of gothic/fl metal is shown within the aura of Elmeod.
As time goes by the band finally had made their own songs, the three first song were: "We Shall Rise Again", "The Light Of Darkness" and "Entrance To My Coffin", it was recorded alive when the band rehearsals at a studio and compiled in the demo called "Helliocentrix".

As Covenant, this band released two albums, with the first (In Times Before The Night) a rather typical fl metal affair, and the latter (Nexus Polaris) widely regarded as a classic in the fl metal field, though by this time the band was broadening its style and was already uncomfortable being labelled as fl metal.
Comparisons to bands such as Marilyn Manson and Rammstein have been made (neither of which are completely valid, though one can find some traces of both on Animatronic) -- though the new album is somewhat more accessible than its predecessor, the shift isn't quite as drastic as others have claimed.
Quiet for the next couple of years, The Kovenant decided on an interesting move, opting to add modern effects (in keeping with their current direction) to their debut album, essentially releasing an updated, enhanced version of the album.
