The Queen's Lancashire Regiment (30th, 40th, 47th, 59th, 81st and 82nd Regiments of Foot) (QLR) was an infantry regiment of the British Army, part of the King's Division.
Since formation, the Queen's Lancashires have served on operations in Northern Ireland in 1970, 1971 - 1972, 1975 - 1976 (resident), 1977, 1980 - 1981, 1987, 1990 - 1992, 1997 - 1999 (resident) and 2001 during the corse of which eight soldiers were killed in action.
During the controversy, one senior officer of the Regiment was quoted as saying that "it is time to measure the ego of one tabloid editor against the lives of British soldiers (still serving in Iraq)" Another was reported by the BBC as saying 'this Regiment has taken on Louis XIV, Napoleon, the Kaiser and Hitler.

The 40th Regiment was born, but as common at this period Regiments were known by their Commanding Officer, and in this case, "Phillips Regiment of Foot", - later Cornwallis'.
In 1881, the 82nd Regiment -(Prince of Wales' Volunteers) was grouped with the 40th and became 1st and 2nd battalions of the "South Lancashire Regiment (Prince of Wales' Volunteers)".

The Royal Regiment of Fusiliers formed in 1968 by the amalgamation of the Royal Fusiliers (City of London Regiment), Royal Warwickshire Fusiliers, Royal Northumberland Fusiliers and Lancashire Fusiliers.

Although equipment was generally standardised, the colonel raising the regiment under the royal commission was paid to dress the troops and had a pretty free hand in the way of other markings, so to prevent confusion between regiments, it was usual to display "facings", cuffs, collars etc of different colours or have different buttoning patterns.
There was also another all-British, regiment, the 55th, which its Colonel, Augustus Howe, converted to light infantry; its breeches and belts (though not their jackets) were dyed brown or green and they cut their tricorne hats down to the dimensions of a bowler.
The regiment was then known as "The Princess Anne of Denmark's Regiment of Dragoons." (How do you fancy answering the phone for that lot?) The regiment fought for the crown during the Glorious Revolution, then switched to support William of Orange in 1688.

The 30Foot raised in 1696, the 59th Foot in 1741, they became the 1st and 2nd Battalions The East Lancashire in 1881.
The East Lancashire's distinguished themselves in 1944 when liberating the Dutch city of Hertogen-bosch, a five day battle with 25per cent casualties.
