The Last Seduction - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The Last Seduction is a film released to theaters in 1994 that stars Linda Fiorentino as the femme fatale, Peter Berg as a small-town man who's one night affair turns into more than he wanted and Bill Pullman as Fiorentino's husband who's chasing her and running from loan sharks at the same time.
Fiorentino was considered a possible Oscar nominee for the film, but because the film was shown on cable television (HBO) before it was released to theaters in 1994, it was disqualified.

The only flaw in The Last Seduction is director John Dahl's indecision about what this film wanted to accomplish; at times Dahl seemed to be parodying up state new Yorkers, in much the same manner Fargo lampooned midwesterners, while at other times, he seemed to be trying hard for noir status.
Once I realized that the rest of the characters in The Last Seduction were merely stereotypical characters, whose beliefs and stereotypes had been inflated to their maximum proportions, this film took on its comically understated flavor.
The Last Seduction was enjoyable from several different perspectives, and with its dark script and a heaping plate of dry humor, easily outdistances the other "Let's Have Sex and Kill My Husband" movie, Body Heat.

The last thing our society needed, I thought, was more men abandoning actual intimate relationships for casual one-night affairs.
I was also highly skeptical of the fact that seduction was something that could be taught at all, and quite convinced that men trying to do so were essentially old-fashioned shysters trying to feed on - and exploit - the insecurity (and wallets) of other men.
So when Seth Parker, one of my seduction instructors for the afternoon, explained that he might hit on me in a bookstore by wrapping up a magazine and bopping me on the head with it, I casually explained where I would have wanted to shove that magazine.

The Last Seduction is an entertaining motion picture to immerse oneself in -- significant chunks of the plot fall apart on close examination, but it holds up well enough during the watching, and nothing can dispel the power of Fiorentino's performance.

This fact proved unfortunate to Linda Fiorentino, as no matter how much the Oscars academy wanted to nominate her for her performance as Bridget, they weren't allowed due to the rules stating that a film must have its first showing in theatres in order to be eligible.
This was a pity, as Fiorentino seems to effortlessly portray a character that manages to simultaneously ooze with attraction and yet repulse due to her extreme disregard for other human life.
The Last Seduction is essentially dialogue rather than sound effect driven, which leaves a 5.1 mix redundant anyhow.
